At last a smart grown up thriller that had me guessing right to the end. I liked the slow burn of this one as it tended to build up the tension. Deftly plotted and just the right amount of drama to keep it edgy and believable.
I tend to have a love hate relationship with the thriller genre and while I do love to dip in now and again I am more often than not left feeling disappointed. But not so with The Wife by Alafair Burke which worked beautifully for me as it seemed to have the right amount of suspense and great characters that were complex and well formed but memorable and real.
I like the authors spin on the issues trending at the moment and how she forms the story around them, The powell family seem to have it all, a successful career, an affluent lifestyle, the right address in manhattan, the best school for their son, a lifestyle of the rich and famous but when your husband is accused of sexual harassment and secrets from the past threaten to get exposed, life can be turned into a nightmare pretty quickly.
A Perfectly paced and utterly compelling tale from page one. The author is a former prosecutor and now teaches criminal law, and her experience and knowledge give this novel the edge.
I really enjoyed this one and my favourite thriller of the year SO FAR.

Did you know she’s James Lee Burke’s daughter? I don’t know why his Robicheaux character’s adopted daughter is the same name, but I haven’t delved into that.
Di..." Thanks Patty, Yes I just learned that. I actually havnt read a James Lee Burke novel although I keep hearing great things about his books. I hope you like this one when you get the chance to read it.
I struggle with plausibility in these novels Pam and need to believe to a certain point what I am reading or the book just doesn't work for me. This is a slower paced novel but I liked that as the build up and revel is more convincing but I have read other reviewers found it too slow. To each her/his own....>, Look forward as always to reaction if you do get the chance to read it.
Thank you Kristin..
Lol! Thanks Jaline, I'll stick to reading too. 📚
Thank you Debbie. I haven't tried James Lee Burke As most of his books seem to be part of a series and that not really my thing.
