Five stars aren’t even close!

Every single time, and I mean—Every. Single. Time—I pick up a new book from Freya Barker, I say the same thing, “Oh my god! This is definitely the best book she’s ever written!” Am I going to say it again? Oh, hell yes!

Cabin 12 takes place in Durango, Colorado, and revolves around Bella Gomez, who we were introduced to in the first book of the series, Keeping 6, and Jasper Greene, an FBI agent who works for Damian Gomez, Bella’s brother.

Bella is something else! She’s an EMT who’s great at her job, compassionate, smart, but sassy with a serious bite to her. She’s the youngest of five children who grew up in a crazy and loud and loving Latino household, and where the answer to every problem can be solved with her overbearing Ma’s tamales and the like—but sometimes ... you can scream and not be heard.

Jasper sees her and hears her. He always has. I absolutely love how he winds his way into Bella’s life, which isn’t an easy thing to do when, Damian, his boss and Bella’s uber-protective brother are one and the same! But since Damian and Kerry are away, well ... Jasper slowly but surely gains Bella’s friendship and trust as both their jobs entwine with the other’s. He has the ability to calm the storms that rage inside of Bella just when she needs it. The more time they spend together, Jasper catches on pretty quickly as to what’s going on with Bella. As much as the two banter, or should I say Bella banters, they both are very aware of what they mean to each other. Jasper is smart, sexy-as-hell, funny, and almost as uber-protective of Bella as her brother. Considering the way he deals with “the tornado” that is the Gomez family, Jasper is a saint.

Cabin 12 has plenty of thrilling suspense with lots of twists and turns as the local PD and the FBI try to solve multiple murders taking place in Durango. As this unfolds, the rest of the amazing cast of characters come into play. Bella’s partner, Ryan, is THE BEST and knows exactly how to handle Bella. They have a great working relationship. Luna, Blackfoot, and Dylan are genuinely likable characters, too, who all play a huge part in bringing justice to those who deserve it.

Along with an incredible supporting cast, I love the side stories going on that help to create a storyline that’s rich and overflowing. There’s also a couple of serious topics that are touched upon, such as depression and sexual harassment in the workplace.

I simply cannot rave enough about this book. Freya Barker’s writing style is akin to how we all think and speak ourselves. Freya’s talent astounds me with every word she spins and weaves, and Cabin 12 is no exception. Five stars aren’t nearly enough for this gem!
