A bit much. I loved loved loved When Beauty Tamed the Beast, but this was more along the lines of A Kiss at Midnight. The heroine was relentlessly snarky. You know this person in real life: she is super annoying, because she NEVER takes a break and ALWAYS has to be the center of attention. There was no real connection between the leads beyond lust. I follow Eloisa on social, so I was not surprised by her homage to Justin Bieber, but all the silly names and pop culture references were exhausting.

Having read the teaser chapters before the book was released, I was also turned off by how scathing Olivia was about Rupert: it was just terribly sad, and kind of strange.

D.G. Homage to Justin Bieber? Yikes! I wouldn't touch this with a 10-foot pole.

Jennifer Haha, yup. That's her thing with these fairy tale books - lots of pop culture references. Plus, her daughter is obsessed with the Biebs.

D.G. This seems like a weird decision to me. Are her readers fans of this kid?

Anyhow, thanks for heads up. I wasn't crazy about the first book but have been wondering about the rest of the series but now I know I shouldn't even give it a try.

Yodamom I just passed the 50% point in the book and I am feeling the same way as your review. The book has such a sad depressing feeling not at all like her past books.

Jennifer It actually gets more depressing, if you can believe it. I was really disappointed.

Yodamom No, Well I should have read more reviews before picking it up. I feel so sorry for one of the characters and really strongly dislike the two main characters. They are so different from her other characters, so weak in their promises and cruel. Sigh : ( Well I've gotten so far I must finish, without a smile.
It's weird- people on Goodreads gave it iffy to poor reviews but people on Shelfari gave it great reviews.

Rainy Wildflower I just finished it. I am glad I didn't know about the Bieber homage or I probably wouldn't have kept reading. Well, time to switch up the books. I thought I'd give the Fairy Tale books another try, but it has been hit or miss. I liked A Kiss At Midnight, but I didn't really care for When Beauty Tamed the Beast - I definitely caught the House reference in that one and probably why I didn't care for the book that much. Reminded me of it too much that I couldn't stop picturing the character as House. Was there a pop culture reference in A Kiss At Midnight?

Way to ensure the future irrelevance of your books. Tessa Dare's done this and it drives me nuts. By 2020 (NOT that far away!), the Old Spice reference will be as pop culture hokey as the Superbowl Shuffle.

Jennifer For some reason your comment is making me want to watch that terrible Goldie Hawn movie that used to be on HBO all the time. WILDCATS!

BJ Rose Thanks for the heads-up; taking this off my wish list!
