it was amazing
bookshelves: 2018, graphic-novel, hoopla, library, monsters, western, stephen-king, revenge

5 stars all the way - this graphic novel is excellent! Do you like westerns? Do you like vampires? Do you like vampire-westerns? If you answered yes to one or more of the above, then step right up!

I figured it sounded interesting, but I did not think I would end up reading one of the best approaches to the vampire genre I have seen. It is creepy, gory, sexy, etc. - all the things you expect in a good vampire tale. Also, it has the element of wondering exactly who you should be cheering for - at some points I found myself very intrigued by the charisma of the main protagonist/antagonist. Will I be for him or against him in the future? I am hooked and I look forward to more.

As a graphic novel, the art is great. I would say it has a slightly less cartoonish feel than Chew, but there is a similar look. The monsters and the gore are well done. And, as I started my Red Dead Redemption II journey last night, I am loving the western art.

I think this is a worthwhile selection for vampire fans to try even if they are not into the graphic novel format.

Chad This series is great. Unfortunately, it seems Scott Snyder lost interest at a certain point and never wrapped it up.

Matt Quann Love the series, but I'm with Chad: where's the back end?

Uh oh, that doesn't bode well!

Eileen Darn, I was all set to check this out, but if it doesn't end, it's going to drive me crazy. It's one of the reasons I haven't yet started the Game of Thrones--because it's not yet complete. I don't want him to die before finishing it the way Robert Jordan did!

I am in the middle of Game of Thrones now even though I have the same concerns you do.

Yeah, as much as I am really looking forward to diving in there, I'm willing to hold off as there are other series I can read that are already complete. I was thinking of beginning the Fifth Season by Jemisin.

I am taking my time and watching a season between each book.

Chad Speaking of George R.R. Martin. I saw this shirt today and had to have it. https://shirt.woot.com/offers/never-f...

The last volume to be released was in 2015. I'd say you might as well read it because who knows if Snyder will ever revisit it.

L. McCoy Glad you like it, man! I haven’t played Red Dead Redemption II yet but I hear great things about it, will probably grab once it’s a bit cheaper. Did you see South Park’s two-part episode that has a lot of jokes about that game? It’s hilarious!

I thought it ended nicely.

The game is great so far - almost too realistic as you have to manage a lot of day to day tasks. But, it is still very cool. And, I hear there might be a vampire in it!

I will need to look up that South Park episode! Thanks for the info.

L. McCoy I just looked it up, the first episode is called Time To Get Cereal and the second part is called Nobody Got Cereal?
It’s not the main thing it’s about but the town’s obsession with Red Dead Redemption II is a major subplot.

Sounds hilarious - and I haven't watched South Park in ages. Maybe time to get reaquainted!

L. McCoy I just got more into it recently. Very funny show and zero fucks given about who gets offended and everyone is made fun of (for example, one episode I saw made fun of religion and atheism in the same scene, loved that). We need more of that.

Ha! Yeah, I agree. I mean, I have had my opinions on how certain groups get treated in a serious environment. But, when people are joking around, I love comedy like this.

L. McCoy I also think society as a whole has gotten too sensitive. Like something could be perfectly fine one day and the next it’s suddenly a hate crime for nonsensical reasons. Not to mention people’s biases (usually political).
I’m just tired of that and am like “You know what? I’ll do what I want and express myself in any way I like. If someone has a problem with it, I don’t give a fuck” (this is actually one of my writing rules) so seeing stuff like South Park and the works of Garth Ennis, both of which have many fans, I’m happy to see I’m not the only one.

Agreed - and, it is interesting how some people are ready to hate you for expressing your opinion. On Goodreads a few times I have expressed my opinion with no agenda to change minds and not hate or dislike for those who don't agree, but some responses to my opinions have been unfortunate (one person even DMed me to tell me I am an awful person and not entitled to an opinion). What it the world coming to?

L. McCoy I have gotten quite a few trolls, usually in political reviews (especially since I’m super against gun control) but even in some non-political ones. Hell some idiots have tried bitching over politics when commenting on my non-political reviews (I remember that happening at least once, maybe more times).
I have not been DMed by any of the trolls yet.
I will say, if my reviews get this kind of reaction I can’t wait to see what kind of controversy I can cause in my books!
