In Pretty Things a grifter sets into action her biggest scam yet, against an heiress turned social media influencer with ties to her past.
”This is what the internet has given my generation: the ability to play God.”
At 28, Nina Ross’s life hasn’t turned out how she imagined and she faces mounting pressure resulting from debt and treatment for her mother’s illness. Following the death of her father, Vanessa Leibling retreats to Stonehaven, her family’s Lake Tahoe estate, where she will take some time to thinks about what’s next for her and her public image. Nina and her boyfriend Lachlan arrive at Stonehaven under the guise of temporary cottage renters, and there, three paths collide and deception ensues.
Pretty Things is a slow burn suspense story with a few small twists along the way. I listened to the audiobook — My favorite, Julia Whelan, narrates Nina and Lauren Fortgang did a great job with Vanessa’s voice as well. The POV shifts between the two women throughout the book. I enjoyed this one and while I didn’t love either character, I felt for both Nina and Vanessa at different times in the story.

Thanks Tamar, I know how that goes 🙃 Hope you like it too when you do have a chance to read it!
I listened to the audiobook and I, too, am a huge fan of Julia Whelan. Both narrators were superb.
This book was a very long book (16 hours!) but it never ever lost steam.
This was Janelle Brown's best book by far and, hopefully, her next book will also be in the same league.

This book was a very long boo..."
Thank you Jayne, I’m glad you liked it a lot too! Lauren Fortgang was a great narrator as well — I think this was my second audiobook by her. I’m already looking forward to Brown’s next book too :)
