This is the worst book I have EVER READ. And the fact that this guy is so popular continues to astound me. I would give it less than zero stars if I could. My sister tricked me into reading this book, and I wish I could gain that time back into my life so I could read a different book. This book teaches you that ANYONE could write a bestseller. Just be sappy and corny and have one big-ass deus ex machina and you're all set for stardom. As you can tell, I don't read shit that I think I won't like. I have rated many books as a 4 or 5, and this book pisses me off to no end because it had the audacity to waste my time as a reader.

Tina That comment has nothing to do with the book. What a condescending bitch ;-)

Amy Brooks Wholeheartedly agree with your commentary!

thanks! it's been awhile since i wrote this, and it still rings true to me. i have nothing against people who like him - it's not personal! i guess i feel like he gets away with being called great when he's not. if everyone who read him admitted he was a guilty pleasure, i wouldn't mind. janet evanovich is that author for me - she doesn't pretend to be literary, and is just fun to read. but for some reason, sparks just gets under my skin...

Mindy I agree! I think your anger, not to mention your foul language, is justified. I can pretty much enjoy reading anything. I don't even mind reading the backs of shampoo bottles when there's nothing else. This is the worst thing I've ever read.

Connie Amen!

message 8: by Nicole-Ann (new)

Nicole-Ann I completely disagree. Sorry that you can not appreciate heartfelt literature since you are too busy reading more 'realistic' crap.

message 9: by Lura (new)

Lura Lacy Me and my boyfriend agree with you. Completely.
I hate how those "romance" books make so muc money. There never is any real love between these characters. No common interests, no chemistry, nothing solid for relationships. And yet woman eat this stuff up!

message 10: by Colin (new)

Colin Deblouwe i want to see you write a book:)

message 11: by Amy (new) - rated it 5 stars

Amy Newsome Dude you are stupid, this is the best book you will ever read in your life. The movie makes me cry, I can't believe you don't like :(

message 12: by [deleted user] (new)

This review mirrors my feelings for this book. Thank goodness not everyone LOVES this awful, awful book.

message 13: by Kay (new) - added it

Kay Caires I love how you recommended it to "the chicken soup for the soup crowd". LOL

Rebecca Bailey If you don't like reading romance novels then why do you bother reading one? I don't see what's wrong with writing a book about true love. If you don't like it then keep your foul language to yourself as well as your spoils of the soul

message 15: by Donna (new) - added it

Donna i agree with u rebecca...

Simplyana:) This BOok is wonderful idk how can people say its not the only bad thing that i didnt like was the ENDING wish it would of ended just like the MOvie!

message 17: by Tipz (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tipz Kee you should appreciate the body of the novel not just what is in the end .

Isabel This IS love story.
I also think you language is not approriate -of course different people have different opinions on books and authors. There is a reason it my be considered unrealistic or over the top - because people want to feel what something like that oes fee like, relive that feeling or escape. There is a reasonw hy this book is how it is - and the film also completely honours it and expresses what people read when they read the book. But is is a love story, it's meant to be about nothing but the love itself and people, it's a romance, if you know you aren't fond of books like this, maybe you should shy away from them in future!

Courtney I find it extremely unnecessary to throw the words stupid around for someone not enjoying this book. People have their own opinions on what they like and what they don't like.

shanghao I so agree with you on this. Amen

message 22: by Becca (new)

Becca Dailey Well...it's like this.Thousands of people HATE Sparks...whatev...who gives a crap? On the other hand, there are millions who LOVE him. Just because you are one of the HATERS doesn't give you any special rights. Just hate him and keep your mouth shut you "stupid" idiot. You have people who love you and people who hate you...no difference. I don't see your dumb ass on the New York Times bestseller list now do I?

message 23: by Clyde (new) - added it

Clyde Cuevas poor.. this is the best.. and i think you dont even know what really worst mean.

message 24: by Kayla (new)

Kayla Great book. Great author. Safe haven is a little more appealing to readers who prefer realistic events.

message 25: by Sangeeta (new)

Sangeeta Chandra Reading some of these comments defending this book by calling the commenter stupid, shows just the type of people this novel is aimed for. Immature teenage girls.

That's why I leave the negative comments up... they really speak for themselves, don't they? ;-)

message 27: by Mil (new) - rated it 5 stars

Mil I completely disagree this book riches my heart and I'm in the 5th grade. And even if it is your opinion, he is such a wonderful writer and you should not be banging down on him. Lets see you right a best seller. TELL ME WHEN IT COMES OUT!!!!!!!!!!

message 28: by [deleted user] (new)

It's really important that we keep from insulting the person personally. Now, personally I thought the book was pretty good, but the movie was exceptional. Goodreads is a place for expressing opinions, but if someone has a differing opinion than you, don't insult them, have a civil argument about their opinions. Calling people cruel names is just immature. Asking someone for the reason behind their way of thinking is how we have spirited and meaningful discussions.
Just keep that in mind, folks ;D

message 29: by Celia (new) - added it

Celia Snyder I agree with Arabella

Janna Oh really po? Maybe I would love to read one of your books. (If you have po.)

Lacarlis Payne Lmao u are obviously crazy and don't know good books when you read them

JoDee Your comment is an indicator of your immaturity and lack of understanding of love. I suggest you read this book again when you are older and have matured. P.S. you can voice your opinion without the foul language, it would be much better received!

message 33: by Abigail (new) - added it

Abigail Graham i have learned from schhol when you write a review you can say something like i don't like this book. Then something good about the book and author. Just because you dont like a book dont mean that Nicholas sparks dont read reviews.. try this please

Ashad Vivek Are you insane !!!!
Do you have any idea what you saying !!!! You are just speaking rubbish without having any prior knowledge about the notebook and it's author too...

Allison Whitmore I agree. The book isn't very good. I was pleasantly surprised that I enjoyed the movie. I do enjoy other titles by Sparks, however. It's sad because it has a great premise, and I love the setting.

message 36: by Babette (new)

Babette You don't need any knowledge to read this book. It is hard to swallow how he is so popular. It shows me the mindset if many declining.

message 37: by Babette (new)

Babette That's a good one. I just watched the movie recently and loved it.

message 38: by Enya (new) - rated it 1 star

Enya I preferred your review to the entire book. In fact, I would have rather spent three hours reading your review over and over rather than the one hour I wasted on the Notebook.
You're spot on about the type of negative commenter too though to any author's credit, as long as someone likes their work then at least they've got a person reading, even if it is this!

Damasia I respect your decision, not everyone has to like it but really don't say it's easy to write a book that has inspired billions of people cause it's obviously not.

Sarah Gulley I LOVE this review! I honestly couldn't have said it better myself! Amen sister!!

message 41: by Linda (new) - rated it 1 star

Linda I came across your review while searching for other like-minded people because I was starting to feel crazy for thinking that this is the WORST book I've ever read. It's a relief to see I'm not alone. I just wrote my own hate review. Thanks for yours!
