Breath (Scales 'N' Spells #2)

I’ll start with the story/plot. We have Tori, a 35 yr old man who actually comes off as 25. He has been sheltered and lied to his whole life, deciding to finally break free. We have Baldewin ..... I honestly can’t tell you much about him. His whole character seems somewhat generic. Is there anything actually special or unique about him ? Hate to say it, but not really. You compare him to say Warin and they’re basically the same character. That being said, I liked him. I liked the way he handled Tori and his issues. The thing is, I’m finding this book had perhaps more issues than the last one. I feel like in this book, we are told more, in GREAT detail, about what is happening and what everyone is doing and how a room is decorated, than actually giving us the two main characters interacting and living the story.
First of all, so damn repetitious, an issue obviously carried over from book one. We are constantly being reminded of something or everything , and it’s unnecessary. Heard it once, heard it twice, more than that is just filler, which this long book, does not need. Now my next issue, although it’s quite a small detail in the grand scheme of things, it’s also .... very THERE. I said the same thing about the first book, but this was was even more noticeable. We have mages who pull out little vials of fallen star, and morning dew, and all these super special ingredients right ? Yet every single spoken spell ends in “gev adi” AGAIN which means what ? Who knows !!! It seems so incredible unoriginal when compared to a vial of idk, moonlight from a still night. And I get it, I’m nit picking, it’s just two words, who really cares. Lastly, the book is long, and it got kinda boring at times. I honest to god did not need to know what a freaking room was ever used for or why. I think this author pairing is just not for me. I will of course continue to read just about everything Drake will release, but not when paired with Sherwood. Will I read book 3 ? Oh man, that's a tough one, and it will either be a no from me, or I'll skim through it and just not review it at all, because I this point, I think my feelings on on this series are pretty clear.
