If you read this while keeping in mind that it’s the same as watching those old classic rom com movies that are so fun and entertaining even tho they’re so problematic at times, you’d enjoy this one otherwise you might not like it much.

Jane is a freakin genius. She just turned 34 and she desperately wants a baby. The problem is that she’s looking for someone “stupid” to balance her genius genes as she had a tough childhood because of how smart she was. So she pretends to be a hooker to trick that “dump” football player into impregnating her.

This is bad! This is just so wrong and bad and problematic as hell. I was angry for so long and I thought I just could never forgive her for what she did! However, if you looked at it from a different POV, you might see it for what it is as a pure fun and entertaining read. The book has a huge cast that I really loved specially the old grandmother. She’s such a fantastic person.

I appreciate how it felt like their is a balance in power when these two fight. Like yes, Jane did a terrible thing but she still refuses to be a pushover. Jane did an unforgivable thing and of course Cal is angry and he’d react. That would make me feel like yeah I feel you, you had the right to be angry. Then I would be like no don’t be angry she’s sorry, then I would remember what she did. And I just felt so dizzy with how conflicted I felt, so I decided to let go of my anger over their situation and just enjoy their fights and banter!

Lau ♡ OMG! The way the heroine thinks is wrong in so many different aspects. But I get what you said about thinking about it as a comedy and not something serious, I do that with a lot of books too. Great review, Em! 😘

message 2: by ❦O❦ (new)

❦O❦ Yikes 😬 The heroine sounds like the stupid one tbh.
I’m sorry this one was ruined by the heroine, i hope your next read is better 🤞

Lovely review, Em! ✨💖

Rozberry🍓 Ick. Sounds like a headache read all around. Can’t say I’m surprised though. I couldn’t get past the third or fourth chapter(I can’t remember which) of the first book in this series by SEP. Total one & done author for me.

Hope your next read is better, Em. 😊

Melanie A. Yeah...I've actually given up reading this author for exactly the reason you weren't thrilled with this book. Sometimes there's just something slightly off and other times it's more obvious (like in this case). But I know a ton of people love this author's books and I hope she'll come through for you in the future. Great review, Em! <3

Lien I know exactly how you feel. I read this book about 10 years ago? and really liked it but when I tried to reread a few months ago I couldn't get past her attitude and mindset... Glad you at least enjoyed the banter tho, Em!

EmBibliophile Lau- Exactly! I really hated what she did. I kept thinking that she wouldn’t actually go through with it, but she did. But as I said I tried to look at it from a different perspective as a fun entertaining read which it still was. Thank you tho hon! xx

EmBibliophile Oumaima- Which is so ironic because she’s supposed to be a freakin genius with that freakin high IQ level, but what she did was just so stupid and so wrong in many different ways! Thank you so much sweetie! xx

EmBibliophile Rozzberry- Thank you sweetie! It was problematic for sure, but it was still kinda fun to read? I loved the first book I read by her and I’m still going to pick more of her books, they’re just so entertaining and fun. Sorry to know it didn’t work for you tho dear! xx

EmBibliophile Melanie- I actually loved the first book I read by her (kiss an angel) and I kinda enjoyed this one despite how problematic it was, it still was kinda entertaining? I think I’m still gonna read more by her, her books are just so fun and entertaining. Sorry to know they didn’t work for you tho! Thank you lovely! xx

EmBibliophile Lien- Yeah, I kinda struggled in the beginning to get past her attitude and mindset as well. She wasn’t the most likable heroine and she didn’t make it easy at all. This wasn’t a bad book tho, but it still has its issues for sure! xx

Yeah, I’ve read more than a few of those kinda reads 😉. Some of them definitely are fun, even when they shouldn’t be. lol
Thanks 😊. I mean I know it’s possible the rest of hers might be okay, but after Chicago Stars book 1 was such a blindside for me, I simply don’t trust SEP to risk a second time. Honestly, the positive rating for book 1 just amazes me 🤷‍♀️.

Arini omg i tried listening to this book some time ago. i thought the premise was interesting, but smth about the h rubbed me off the wrong way, haha. 🙈 i never finished it. glad you enjoyed it despite the conflicting feeling it caused. great review, em! 💗

EmBibliophile Rozzberry- exactly! I totally get you! I know book 1 has such a high rating, that’s why I’m still curious to give it a try. I think I’ll still keep what you said in mind, so I won’t be hugely disappointed when I pick it up. Thank you! xx

EmBibliophile Arini- the beginning was just so problematic and so wrong in many different ways. I struggled in the beginning to get past the heroine’s attitude and mindset! So I can totally see why It didn’t work for you. For me, I tried to look at it just as a problematic rom com, lol! Thank you tho darling! xx

mel ☽ i looove old classic rom com tropes even though they're problematic afff. they just give me nostalgia and ughhh.. good times. but that first quote tho i- 😅 lol that IS bad

EmBibliophile The whole situation is so bad and so problematic indeed! But yeah this reminded me of those old classic rom com movies and something about them is just kinda entertaining, lol!! xx

I get it. The high ratings are exactly what suckered me in to picked it up as well. Plus sports romances is one of my favorite romance sub-genres. It’s like frickin’ catnip to me 🐱. lol.
Sounds like a good plan. If you would decide you wanted a more detailed/spoiler heads up before you dive in, Nenia has a spot on review imho.

preoccupiedbybooks Er pass 😂

EmBibliophile Rozzberry- Sports romance is such an enjoyable sub genre indeed! Such a shame that in that one it was a disappointment. thank you so much darling, now I feel prepared if I decided to pick it up! xx

EmBibliophile Fran- yeah I would say that you should probably skip this one! 😂

farwa✩ (hiatus; exams) oh no.That quote just doesn’t sound right to me😂.But I loved the author’s Kiss an Angel even though the first few chapters were super bumpy ://

EmBibliophile Me too! Kiss an angle was so adorable despite the bumpy beginning! The plot here was so problematic and the whole situations was just so bad!😂
