it was amazing

The Duke of Exmoor, Max Devereux, is a sinfully handsome rakehell who suffers from an inability to love because of his horrible childhood. Lady Charlotte “Charlie” Hastings is a daring, disreputable (in some people’s eyes), curvaceously attractive debutante that doesn’t fit societies rules. Charlie has been ridiculed and looked down upon, the subject of many articles written by the salacious paper The Beau Monde Mirror, and does not want her family to suffer from any more scandals because of her.

Max is very protective of Charlie and attracted to her but keeps her at a distance since she is his best friend’s little sister. He may not believe it but it he is a genuinely good man that comes to the aid of not just Charlie but others. Charlie has loved Max since she first saw him at age 16 and wishes he would just act on his impulses with her instead of trying to be a gentleman.

This is the last book in The Disreputable Debutantes series. It's based on four young women that get expelled from their academy because of unbecoming conduct. The series follows all the girls finding love. They initially put a list of gentleman together for all of them to find husbands. Charlie puts Max at the top of the list, hmm. Throughout the books you realize that she has a tendre for Max and that he is aware she is growing up but her brother has clearly said keep away from her. So he has kept his distance until Charlie has her journal stolen by Baron Rochfort. And then the louse tells all her secrets to The Beau Monde Mirror. Max steps in and defends her, proposes out of convenience but of course tells her he will never love her, and the story begins. A great read that took me away from life for a while. All the sexual frustration, sizzling chemistry, unrequited love, and gender inequality stirred my angsty soul and then the happy ending left me deliciously satisfied. I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend all the books in this series. This book and the first in the series are falling for best friend’s sibling tropes, which I adore. I was given an ARC of this book and chose to post my review.
