Wow, sad to think it is the last in this series. I have come to love all these young misses looking for a bit of adventures in a world closed to them because of their sex.
Charlie is the heart of this group of four friends, she is the one who dares and does not back down. She struggles to follow rules why she finds ways to thwart them, even if there is a price to pay. She is no shy miss, even when cornered, she gives as good as she receives, still she has her own issues, mostly due to her physical appearance. Because she does not fit the expected mold with her curvaceous shape, she does not see herself as desirable. Yet she does not let it stop her, she is young woman full of hopes and dreams, she goes for what she wants and when mistakes are made, she faces them.
Max believes sincerely he is unable to love, that he has closed his heart to emotions a long time ago. And while he is drawn to Charlie, he acknowledges it is only lust, as nothing can be expected from him.
Still he is able to recognize her masked and disguised at first sight, he jumps instantly in the fray to defend her honor and trusts her even over his blood kin. And whatever he tells himself, can’t keep him away from her.
Before everything, they are friends, and while they explore their relationship, they already have a mutual respect for one another, they trust the other implicitly. Charlie has been in love with Max since they met, but she also knows his aversion to marriage. And even if she would never say no to having her dream Duke by her side, she won’t settle for crumbs of him. Max on his side, must drop his blinders before being able to offer more to her, but he is so set on his path, he will need some eyes opening facts to slowly realize Charlie is no common society’s miss.
Oh my!
Max’ mother, what a harpy. I still feel she did not get her right comeuppance.
They are in for a poignant and moving journey paved with discovery, trustworthiness, betrayal and friendship ...
