This story made me think of the song Nat King Cole sang "L-O-V-E" found on youtube. Max and Charlie's love story is complex. Each had a painful history to overcome. The source of Charlie's problems came from partly the same place as Max. Charlie grew up in a loving accepting home. Whereas Max grew up with an ice-cold manipulative mother and a wicked twisted father who believed all the wrong things needed to make a boy a man. At age twelve Max decided never to love anything or anyone. As thus he led his life until he met Charlie. Someone had it out for Charlie. It was if someone was spying on her and her every misstep was splash across the gossip rags. She was dubbed "the disreputable debutante". Charlie's life was far from boring and Max was there to lend a hand when covert things needed done. She was being blackmailed but when she thought she was safe; her life again was splashed across the pages of the gossip rags. It seemed like misfortune followed Charlie as any misstep was fodder for the gossip columns. Little did she know who was behind this and why. Never in a million years would she have ever known what was causing her fall from grace to become the disreputable debutante. Despite all the problems and hurdles they had to overcome Charlie never lost her faith that one day Max could love her. A wonderful exciting drama filled story that will keep you turning page after page. A must read. I highly recommend it.

Below are the lyrics to Nat King Cole's song which I thought was quite fitting for this book.
L-O-V-E
Nat King Cole
L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore and

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it
Love was made for me and you

L is for the way you look at me
O is for the only one I see
V is very, very extraordinary
E is even more than anyone that you adore can

Love is all that I can give to you
Love is more than just a game for two
Two in love can make it
Take my heart and please don't break it

Love was made for me and you
Love was made for me and you
Love was made for me and you
