Lewis makes many excellent points in this book, the most notable being that absolute truth is not merely a social construct that can be dismissed on a whim. To deny absolute truth is to deny the very framework of existence.

At the same time, though, I was very confused while I was reading and had to backtrack and reread several times to grasp Lewis’s point. I found the writing and presentation of arguments to be fairly convoluted. This definitely merits a reread in the future.

Heidi I recommend it as an audiobook in addition to regular reading. At least that helped me on my second time through...

Amelie Thanks for the recommendation! I’ll keep that in mind.

Fëalórin I recently purchased a box set of his Signature Classics, including this one. (They're so pretty! *squeals*)

Amelie Ooh, awesome! I love those beautiful box sets. (The ones I have are super old and secondhand...or maybe thirdhand or fourthhand. XD)

libremilia Thoughtful review, Amelie! Abolition of Man is definitely one of Lewis’s harder works. I read it two years ago, and it’s remained one of my favorites of his. The way he uses the Tao to illustrate a worldwide presence of the “ought” was fascinating, wasn’t it? And then the way he argues that emotions really do have a place in rational thought actually was transformational for me when I first read it. I’m so glad you were able to read this one!! ;)

Amelie Thank you, Emily! Absolutely; it was very insightful. The more I study absolute truth and grow in my faith, the more amazed I am at how God wove his design into the world and into us.

Heidi I agree, Amelie and so beautifully said. He is TRULY our awesome Creator!
