John W. Yost is a filmmaker and educator from Upstate New York. His work as a producer and director has been featured at Slamdance, SXSW, BamcinemaFest, Sarasota FF, Maryland FF, Marfa FF, Cucalorus FF, and Dallas Video Festival, where he won Best Narrative Short in 2017. Most recently, he was one of only fifty participants selected for Black Factory Cinema's 2018 Auteur Workshop, led by Werner Herzog in Peru. John is a former columnist for Filmmaker Magazine, the founder of the commercial production company Fifth Column Features, and the co-founder of a film collective known as The APB. Often a hybrid of the absurd and dramatic, his work constantly seeks beauty, truth, and a greater understanding of the self.
