In hindsight this movie hasn't made it easy on itself in how it's chosen to look at its topic. It's a light entertainment feel for a very heavy topic. The movie is pretty consistent within itself in that delivery and the actors are pretty good at hitting that vibe. They're playing for cheesy laughs based on a 70s and 80s comedy delivery and they do a good job in those characters. Maybe the director felt it was the only way to pick the scab off this ugly topic and maybe trick some of the hardcore gun nuts to consider the topic as the direct serious approach obviously hasn't worked. Judging by the adverse one star reviews he's failed to reach those people anyway, but is this a good movie in spite of the style they chose? It's not a hard hitting piece of cinema, which it almost needs to be, there is no deep realisation moment to its topic, and in that way perhaps it parallels the situation it portrays. The wives try a oblique blackmail approach to a problem that reason can't solve, and achieve unclear results. The movie plays it for 70s and 80s dukes of hazard laughs and even though they did it well they achieve unclear results. But it's not an unpleasant way to at least attempt to start thinking about the topic, and it's clear its target audience of gun resistance really isn't ready for that discussion, at all, so it highlights at least that. These people don't want to think about it even in a light comedy way aimed at an easy inroad to the type of film the director thinks they want to see. I liked a lot of the characters here, the sex stuff and language certainly didn't pull punches, they started the conversation, and so it succeeds somewhat, and fails somewhat, no fault of the actors I think. They did OK with the material and direction they received. Its an easy watch of an obviously uncomfortable topic.

This is one of those movies that can get a high score because people are voting in the message, instead of the movie itself. Pro gun people vote low and anti gun vote high. That's the only way that (by the time I'm am writing this review) this movie can achieve a score of 7.1. I am completely against guns. But messages aside, this is a horrible movie, full of the worst clichés, bad acting and lousy humor. I rarely stop a movie until it's finished, but this was just impossible to take. It's like the bad kind of B movie, but with good image quality!

Like most of the movies coming out of Hollywood these days, this is a politically motivated picture. It is so much so that it's message appears more obvious than one made by the old Soviet Union propaganda Machine. In the past you would have an odd line discreetly inserted in the dialog but this is done in an unashamedly obvious way. It's like they have the political message they want to push and then wrap a week script around it. I can't imagine lots of viewers giving this film high score but the people coming out of the same stable as the makers of this picture. No wander it's rating is falling like a stone.

Not only do I find the anti-gun agenda disguised as comedy in this movie objectionable so is the premise of withholding sex to promote one's agenda. Using sex in this manor reduces it to nothing more than prostitution. FORCING your opinion on another person in this manor is disgusting and as far from an intellectual debate as you could get. All this means is you know you would LOSE intellectually and must resort to coercion. How typically leftist. If the right doesn't like something they just don't do it, if the LEFT doesn't like something they want to BAN it. I also notice the two positive reviews come from outside the US, you liberals are always whining about preserving culture, well the 2nd Amendment is OUR culture and WE wish to preserve it, butt out.

Not a coincidence that this movie seems oddly familiar to Spike Lee's Chi-Raq as both are modern day takes on the Greek play Lysistrata by Aristophanes. It's like both films are on two different sides of the spectrum with Chi-Raq being on the darker side, while Is that a Gun in your Pocket being more lighter.

Taking place in Texas, after two kids accidentally shoot a man non lethally, the women in a small town decided to stop having sex with their men until they get rid of their guns.

Seems like a difficult task in a place like Texas, and this movie is far more liberal than I would have expected a movie about gun control in Texas would be, but I guess the point is if they can do it in Texas they can do it anywhere.

It does seem like a fantasy, but the message is clear and should be told. The point comes across in an entertaining way.

Very impressive how both Chi-Raq and Is that a Gun in your Pocket can tell such a similar message in two very different ways.

That is this movie in a nutshell It;s the wonderful females who hate guns and the men who love them.

It's a feminist film.

It's a film that hates men and full of clichés.

It's badly written and acted.

It;s bad...just bad. It's about females who want guns out and they punish men by withholding sex. In reality the men will simply move on or pay for poon.

It's virtuous women vs the immorality and hedonism that men have.

This movie is about a 3. Not really funny, it does have a plot but it's simply a film that uses identity politics to make strawman arguments. It's a stinky, smelly, non Lubricated mess of a chick flick.

I really enjoy watching comedy, and even more when the main theme is about something we live everyday. I expected to watch this movie because when I saw the trailer I thought it was a great idea to combine humor with a nice reflection about carrying guns in America. This film offers something new, to laugh and also reflect about some American obsessions. I recommend it because you will have a great time by thinking how far we can get when the desire get in first row rather than doing what everyone else's does. I had a blast watching this film. It's funny and makes us remember the Lennon's line Make LOVE NOT WAR. With a great cast. A comedy that gives a second thought of some of our behaviors.

In Trumpland if you don't like something you call it fake news, liberal or deny it ever happened. This is a lighthearted comedy that pokes fun at the basics of relationships. Republicans really do think all women are second class citizens so its obvious they wouldn't find it funny. In fact if your ego and manhood are so fragile that you can't deal with a little teasing then you are republican and you should avoid this movie just so you won't beat your wife and children. I live in a republican neighborhood so I have guns to protect me from my delusional neighbors. This comedy is really about relationships between normal men and women. Not maniacal meatheads and their molls. Grow a pair and shore up your wafer thin ego with some kool-aid and take your lovely wife to the RedBox to rent this little gem.

I mean that literally. Funded by the usual suspects in the anti-gun fringe, this..."movie"...is free of story, character and plot. It's purely a message piece, pushing the obvious agenda and inviting the use of force...or passive/aggressive bullying...to achieve the goal. I will admit I wonder, though, did they really understand just how few people would willing see this thing? Less than 40k recouped at the Box Office. Surely they had hoped, even as they knew it would lose a lot of money, that it would not fail that badly?

If you can find a way to watch it for free, a way that does not put one dime back in the propagandists pockets, then it's worth it to see just how bizarrely out of touch the left is with, well...reality. Otherwise, just be happy you dodged a bullet.

Absurd liberal propaganda. It is easy to understand how garbage like this can be made when you consider the money behind stripping Americans of their rights. The saddest part about it is that the sheep will follow wherever they are led since they have been conditioned to believe that they must be told what to do and how to do it. Beyond the solely political nature of this mess, the acting was worse than bad. They propped up and an aging (maybe senile?) actress so there would be a name on the marquee. The story is ridiculous, the message is ULTRA biased, the acting pathetic and the filmmaking looks like it was done by a film school student, and the so-called 'facts' they quoted are completely inaccurate. All of which is surprising when you think of all the money behind it. It is a tragedy such anti American crap like this even has a chance of being made.

Been a long while haven't had a real laugh at good old comedy.

This film is well-made and the theme they chose is excellent! Gun control! Well, they managed to put enough together to make it a nice comedy.

The only thing i regret is that i didn't get any popcorn.

Briefly, the story takes place in a little town in Texas, an incident involving a gun at a school creates some havoc amongst parents and the locals.

Not saying more, don't want to spoil the fun for you.

And yes, do not look at the negative reviews. This film is fun to watch!

I am giving it two stars because I read in more than one source that 1-star and 10-star votes are not counted, or counted with less value.

This is a truly awful movie. I thought it would be light and entertaining but it is neither.

The acting is poor and there is nothing comedic here, only cliché. Worst of all is the juvenile treatment of positions contrary to the left's point of view and their stereotyping of persons who hold such positions. It reinforces the fact that "liberals" are actually the ultra-conservative, closed-minded, intolerant persons they claim to hate and swear they themselves are not. Interesting that apparently only they can be offended; it doesn't seem to bother them to offend their fellow countrymen deeply ... and with such a low-brow, intellectually bankrupt attempt besides.

It's so bad, I thought it was Canadian.

If you are looking to go to the movies, grab that bucket of popcorn and of course a diet soda and watch a movie that just flows with some very funny moments, a boatload of character actors who we have watched over the years but sometimes have troubles remembering their names and the movies they were in and after the movie is over spending time talking about the challenges the characters faced and discovering more golden nuggets of the story, then grab some friends and see this movie. The story is about our American male love of guns, significant others, family,small town community and others who try to influence our actions in some very funny and awkward situations. I don't want to give away any of my favorite moments, so if this movie is playing in your area, go and enjoy.

The review below from the Donald Trump supporting deplorable made me give this a try and I loved it. As he said it is for Liberals who hate the people that put Donald Trump in the White House and loved the 8 years of Obama. We need more movies like this that show that the 2nd Amendment needs to be removed and the deplorables need to lose access to their guns.

I loved it! It is entertaining and has hilarious women in it. Gun control is the issue at hand. Obviously in the movie women are the ones who come together and take control of the situation. It's needed in today's world. Why not make it an entertaining topic like this movie and start a conversation. See it! Comedy is written and shown in so many different forms. The cast is well put together and funny. Move past Lysistrata and see what us women or people collectively can do to change the environment around. Of course Lysistrata will make you laugh and say that would never work. But in this movie, yeah it did work. The cast was funny, like Fernanda Romero, having the brains and confidence to stir up the men and women with her sexuality if she pleased too. Why not? Yes. Funny and worth watching!

I really enjoyed watching the movie. Great team and is about real life stuff that happen daily. I recommend each one of to go and watch it. It feels so amazing watching movies that are not about horror or sex. Im a Comedy movie lover and will definitely watch it again! This movie contains. A great crew. It is so easy to follow and each scene is meaningful. The stories behind each scene are from this world. Fernanda Romero its too funny. The movie overall is funny. It is worth it to watch it. It is very entertaining and as a women is sometime good to control the situation. Obviously we are super women! The world is full Of hate and this movie is full of LOVE! So if you are looking to relax and laugh grab a popcorn, soda and chocolate and enjoy the funny cast! Overall great great movie! Its not that long so you wont get tire Watching it. For me, one of the signs of a great movie is when it really sticks with you, and you keep thinking about it for days after you've seen it--"Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?" is one of those films. At first glance, you think you're watching a broad sex comedy. But like the classic sitcoms of the 70s (All in the Family, Maude, M*A*S*H), this film tackles complex and controversial topics such as gun control and the power struggles inherent in love relationships in a deftly comedic and thought-provoking manner. If you're just in the mood for an exceptionally funny film, with hysterical and lovable characters, this is it. If you want a film that's going to stimulate your mind, and interesting conversation and debate, this is it as well. This movie just keeps sneaking up on you as it delivers "zinger" after "zinger," through great characters, and extremely skilled writing and direction. The dialogue alone is worth the investment. Ironically, even with its "off color" language, sexually charged themes and "R" rating, at its core, this is a sweet family film. In the end, "Is That a Gun in Your Pocket?" is one of the most endearing, inspirational, funny, "feel good" films I've seen in years.
