The 'hazing' felt forced and cringe.

A good second episode follows the path of dexter with more introductions, with what i would describe has clever framing / filming style to emphasize their future.

Unfortunetly the cringe just takes me out of the dark humour and clean story, like a scalpel to the eye it's painfull to watch masuka being a walking a reg flag, but goes unchecked.

The hazing of dexter on his first crime scene sounds good on paper but really just sucks the wind out of the sails of the episode with the painfully wooden and stiff acting by the supporting cast, even sarah michelle gellar outshines them all (in a good way).

This episode is like doing the outside border of a jigsaw puzzle, a lot of foundation being laid down for later plot develeopments which fans of the og dexter series will be looking forward to, some with baited breath, tho With a lot of room to fill in the gaps will they try to mix things up for the better or worse ? And end up forcing things that don't fit ?

Deb- she's shows a vunerability and a softer side before snapping back to the cussing and put downs with hints toward her future.

    Thrilled

I have to say, I am overwhelmingly pleasantly surprised by how this series is going so far. I was a little nervous about the pacing in the first episode but all is essentially perfect by episode two. The cast is absolutely stellar. Patrick Gibson is so good as Dexter, there were so many moments watching where it really felt like I was watching young Michael c hall. I really love seeing the 70s story line coming into play and I have a feeling it's going to be emotionally devastating from the perspective of Harry. It really feels like the original show and the nostalgia is a joy to sit in. I am so excited to watch the rest of this season.

    1st episode was great!

    2nd episode...not so much.

Wow Deb is annoying and basically ruins the show for me.

Not to mention I really dislike the retelling flashbacks of Dexters mom. I thought this show was supposed to be dexters life flashing before his death. How do either of these 2 things relate. He wouldnt have been there for these things.. Also Dexter was a baby when his mother was killed, not a 4 year old. His brother was 3 or 4. This not only makes no sense, but rewrites what the original had already set in stone.

And ...there wasnt even an indicator that there was a flashback. This episode was also lit poorly. The scenes dont have enough contrast...until the flashbacks..then the contrast is way too high.

    Keeps getting better

Well after the first episode I was really excited to see the rest of the series. There were a few things I was worried about however. The pacing felt rushed in the first half of the first episode. And while that does continue a bit for the second episode, I understand why and I'm okay with it because the story is really good and it's developing. I feel that the way they have stuck to some original plot points that we saw in flashbacks while weaving in a full episode and world of details was 10/10 masterfully done. I'm really glad they gave us two episodes at once this week because when episode 2 ended I was immediately wanting to see where things went. And having episode 3 ready to go was great.

Also we are starting to see the traditional "big bad" villain emerge like in the original Dexter series. Usually in the original show there would be some minor villains that would pop up and then be handled by the end of one or two episodes. But at the same time, Dexter and Miami Metro would be pursuing a villain, often the same person. And it would take the entire season for this villain to be caught or resolved in some way. It looks like we are starting to get that villain in this series, which really gives the viewers the ability to invest in each episode so that we get a nice burst of the smaller villains but have to wait until the end for the big payoff.

Also I noticed that I am really starting to like the relationship between Deb and Dexter in episodes 2 and 3. I wasn't sure if I would really ever care about the younger versions of these characters since they're totally different actors. I thought it might be hard for me to picture them as young Deb and Dexter, and hard to get attached to them. But it has only taken three episodes for me to be fully invested. I care about these characters now and what happens to them. And that is the best thing I could've asked for in this new show. It actually matters, I really like it. It's not just filler "new Dexter" content. It's really good, well done TV. I'm genuinely excited for each new episode. Great job to the team who made this show!

    Feeling like a retro Dexter

Very much in the vain of the first seasons of the show, there seems to be a good balance of humor, suspense, and character moments that feel familiar, but that we love. This is 100% for fans of the show, however one could just hop in this prequel season and enjoy it. Also, an over abundance of fan service is present, which is great for fans. Fortunately the show doesn't just rely of fan service, as it is added to what is so far a solid start to a good story. The actors are doing awesome, and the writing is on point! Any flaws that are present in this show is nothing the original show wasn't guilt of, (cheesy diologue, ect). Also it was great seeing Camilla!! So far, I'm digging the series. Can't wait for Resurrection.

The name on Dexter's fake ID is Patrick Bateman - the titular character in "American Psycho," a best selling novel that was published in March 1991, thus only a couple of months prior to the events of the series. An early scene had also shown a copy of the novel, while in the original series, Dexter is revealed to be clinging to this alias in an effort to obtain M99.
