Most engineering leaders are measuring what AI does for developers day to day. Matt Beane thinks that's the wrong question entirely. Instead of asking how the ball was released, ask where you were looking to see what kind of pitch it was. The productivity boost is important, but it's the learning rate that matters. Is your organization getting better over time? Most companies have no idea. Watch the full conversation with Cory Hymel on Shift + Tab Podcast: https://lnkd.in/ebzVcQiZ

Every engineering leader understands technical debt. You ship the expedient thing, and you pay for it later with interest. Hiring works the same way. When a job description is written against a title that no longer matches the work, you don't feel it on the day you hire. You feel it in the capability you thought you bought and have to buy again, and in a learning budget aimed at skills that were already commoditizing. This is talent debt. Our new research finds that 53% of Fortune 500 postings titled "AI Engineer" or "ML Engineer" ask for skills drawn from at least two different established roles. The title names one job. The skills describe another. This gap has a cost. We analyzed 47,101 postings and scored 2,026 skills to show where the gap is widest and what the emerging roles actually require. Read the full report and dig into the eight new roles we uncovered: https://lnkd.in/edjKee7z

“Right now, a lot of companies have access to AI. The opportunity is what happens next,” said Carrol Chang, CEO of Andela. “The companies that get this right will build the skills and workflows to use AI well, and the engineering capacity to put it into real work. That’s how you get from adoption to solutions that actually create value. As an OpenAI Select Partner, we’ll help enterprises do that at scale.” Read more: https://lnkd.in/eCNC4xuc
