Mike Wang shared thisJensen Huang's iconic black leather jacket is being auctioned for charity (Sotheby's auction link in comments). It was 9:18 PM and Arielle Zuckerberg (one of our GPs at Long Journey) called me, "Jensen replied to my email. He offered to donate his black leather jacket for our charity auction… and he said he would sign it." - AZ Holyyyy. We were giddy with excitement. This could raise funds to help so many people! For the last five years, we have run an annual charity poker tournament (Inflection Casino) each December to fund grants and fellowships for young minds to act on their passions and create inflection points in their lives (through Edge City). A number of our team members have experienced scarcity first-hand (e.g. Cyan grew up homeless and found inflections through the generosity of others). We know how daunting it can feel to take the first leap and pursue “risky” opportunities without access to resources and “second belief.” We know the power of a permission-giving push, a “you should go do this” and how liberating access to $2,000 can be. The tournament was our small way of helping to create abundance for others, so more people could become confident first believers in themselves. Two years ago, I added an auction to the fundraiser, with a simple curatorial rule: the prizes had to be magically weird and authentic expressions of people’s interests and higher purposes. A tour of Anduril with Palmer Luckey. A 1:1 coaching session on storytelling with Lenny Rachitsky. A year's support of Kettle & Fire bone broth from Justin Mares. A fnnch painting. A trek to watch a Stoke Space launch. A living funeral (yes, a living funeral!) designed by yours truly (me!). Then came an item that added a new layer of magic. Mark Zuckerberg (thanks to AZ) donated one of the first gold chains he ever bought and wore. It retailed at $400. It raised $40,000. So we continued to dream. What are the other great artifacts of Silicon Valley self-expression, the things people wear when they are most boldly and authentically themselves? Someone said it almost as a joke: "What about the Jacket?" The rest is history. Jensen's Jacket is now being auctioned off through Sotheby's for charity. What is this benefitting? Edge City is a non-profit society incubator, creating month-long popup villages where technologists, scientists, researchers, artists, and families live and build side by side, prototyping the institutions and ways of living the future will need. Ten gatherings across four continents so far. More than 12,000 participants. 30+ projects spun out into the world.

The residency provides a home for entrepreneurs going from "-1 to 0" of their building journey and the fellowship creates a container for operators to prototype a project or do research while in the Edge Esmeralda, 1-month pop-up city container. It's a joy to get to collaborate with Edge City, Janine Leger + Timour Kosters + Justin Mares on this on our mission to create more "inflections" in people's lives.

For the second year, we're partnering with Long Journey to run a month-long founder residency inside Edge Esmeralda. 11 builders are moving into Healdsburg for May 30 to June 27 to live and build together, fully sponsored, alongside 500+ other founders, researchers, and creators. This year's cohort is working across orbital refueling, ocean robotics, AI memory systems, renewable data centers in the Philippines, clinical trial intelligence, and physics-grade reasoning. They'll have direct access to Long Journey's investment team, founder dinners, and a final demo day at the close of the month. Most are really just writing goals in Q1 and quietly forgetting them by Q3. 🫠 The difference between strategy that holds and strategy that drifts isn't the framework — it's the operating cadence around it. The QBR and OKR loop is where a plan either meets reality or falls apart in private. On June 22nd I'm giving a keynote at Andreessen Horowitz's Chief of Staff Bootcamp on exactly this: the structure, the prep, and the follow-through that keeps a company honest between planning cycles. The cost of groceries is the number-one financial stressor in America. Food prices have increased by over 30% since the pandemic, while wages have remained largely flat. For the 100 million Americans who make less than $50,000 a year, this is not an abstract issue. By the end of each month, budgets have dried up, and families are standing in grocery store aisles making impossible choices. To solve this problem, Forage is building a network for affordability: 1. So far, it’s been downloaded over 100,000 times, with a goal of reaching one million families by the end of 2026. Without the Austin Convention Center, we reimagined how the event comes together across downtown Austin. It was the largest transformation in our 40-year history. Thanks to the creativity, flexibility, and energy of our community, SXSW 2026 proved that our event can continue to evolve while staying true to what makes it special. Since then, our team has spent months reviewing attendee feedback, analyzing data, and talking with our community about what worked and what we can make better. Many of the changes coming in 2027 are a direct result of what we heard. 🔹 Reservations: We’re refining the system to make it simpler and more reliable, with fewer reservation windows closer to the event. Reservations will continue to account for only a portion of each room’s capacity, with walk-up access available at every SXSW event. 🔹 Innovation: Core Innovation programming will now run Monday through Friday, creating a more focused and consistent experience throughout the week while maintaining meaningful overlap with Film & TV, Music, and Comedy. 🔹 The new SXSW Podcast Festival: Podcast programming and live recordings have grown significantly at SXSW in recent years. Mike Wang reacted on thisMike Wang reacted on thisI recently sat down with Joelle Emerson on Below the Surface to talk about some of the more unconventional bets we've made recently at Superhuman. When Grammarly, Coda, and Superhuman became one company, one of the values we landed on was "Prioritize the pond." The idea is to get people focused on the size of the pond rather than the size of the fish. And it's made me realize how much your HR systems quietly drive one kind of thinking or the other. A lot of our bolder People decisions came out of deliberately building for the pond. The equity swap is a good example. We gave people a voluntary way to trade some of their guaranteed salary for a bigger equity stake in where we're headed. Pretty much everyone told us no one would take us up on it. More than 40% did, and the program sparked a huge cultural change inside our walls. Return-to-office was another one. We didn't want to hand down a mandate, so we built something that actually gave people a choice. Over 75% of our employees who lived near a hub opted in, and a third picked four or five days a week! The way we got there is probably the part I'm most proud of. Neither of these worked because we made people do them. They worked because we trusted people to decide for themselves and gave them a real reason to want to. I couldn’t be more proud of the Superhuman People team, who have made these programs successful, and huge thanks for the very thoughtful conversation, Joelle!

We talked strategy, dreamed up what's next (hello, Tiny AI 👀), and celebrated some exciting wins, including ranking No. 208 on the Inc. 5000 list of America's Fastest-Growing Private Companies, all while staying true to what makes us, us. But the best part was simply having this team's brilliant minds together IRL. Between ax throwing, a Texan BBQ, line dancing, way too many sticky notes, we're grateful for the time together with this crew and excited for what's ahead. It's been one year. Here's where that decision took me: → Moved to Bali for 6 months → Came home with less than $100 to my name → Moved to San Francisco. Played poker for rent. Slept on couches. → Got funded, built a team, and now run a $5 million dollar startup. I've been broke, fallen on my face, and gotten back up more times than I can count. All in twelve months. Did I do all of this while my friends were at school? Yes. But was it all up to me? No. I knew exactly two people when I got to San Francisco. Broke, alone, and hungry. And you guys are the reason I am not broken into a million pieces. Lambda Surgical began with little more than an internal memo, hundreds of unfinished ChatGPT conversations, and a Claude-coded demo assembled using surgical equipment from eBay and organs bought from the local supermarket. Today, that scrappy idea has become a company building a platform that could change how 300M minimally invasive procedures are performed every year by allowing surgeons to map, measure, and model anatomy inside the body and in real time. We believe Lambda's technology can open the door to a future in which surgery is dramatically more precise, far less dependent on individual operator skill, and increasingly sharpened by cutting-edge artificial intelligence. To put that vision into action, we are announcing our $6.5 million seed round, co-led by Long Journey and South Park Commons, with participation from MXV Capital, Pear VC, Urban Innovation Fund, and Sweet Spot Capital. I am especially grateful to Dylan Itzikowitz, Arielle Zuckerberg, Todd Usen, Pavan Choksi, Allen Gannett, Arun Rai, and the close friends and family who believed in Lambda from the beginning. Further, none of this would exist without the company’s earliest teammates. Bo Yang Yu, PhD, Mark Stolyar, Erica Mason, PhD, and our Chief Medical Officer Louis Liou were believers in Lambda's vision long before we obtained institutional funding. I am also grateful to the advisors, surgeons, collaborators, and supporters who helped shape Lambda and bring us to this point. Our next major milestone is our FDA submission.
