Sorbetti is a boss in Super Mario Galaxy 2 and its Nintendo Switch port. He[1][3] is the boss in Freezy Flake Galaxy and appears in the mission Sorbetti's Chilly Reception where he is seen terrorizing the local Star Bunnies. Sorbetti is a gigantic, living spiked snowball, with two crystals for eyes and an evil grin. He also has a bulbous red nose that serves as its weak point. Sorbetti is always seen next to a planetoid with two trees, snow pillars, and three snow buttons, which, along with Sorbetti, give the impression of a snowman, as the artwork shows. The planetoid is internally called Yukkina Body Planet[4] and is Sorbetti's home.[2] As the galaxy's Christmas theme and the Japanese and other language names of the mission "Sorbetti's Chilly Reception" indicate, Sorbetti is a reference to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. This reference is also shared by Tap-Tap the Red Nose from Yoshi's Island, with whom Sorbetti bears a resemblance, since both are spherical creatures with spikes and red noses. Sorbetti shares his boss theme music with Peewee Piranha, Rollodillo, and Prince Pikante.
Sorbetti, alongside Digga-Leg, is one of the only two bosses who appeared in the E3 2009 trailer for Super Mario Galaxy 2.[5] Here, Sorbetti appears in what can be seen as an earlier version of the Freezy Flake Galaxy. Sorbetti appears on a similar planet to the Yukkina Body Planet with some exceptions, such as having only one tree instead of two, Crystals instead of snow pillars, and the absence of snow buttons on the planet. Sorbetti's model also lacks shadows, and his red nose blinks periodically.
Battle
In the Freezy Flake Galaxy, before the fight against Sorbetti, Mario finds a Checkpoint Flag on the White Out Planet, as well as a Lumalee offering a 1-Up Mushroom or a Life Mushroom for 30 Star Bits. After taking the Launch Star from the planet, Mario lands on a small planetoid that is actually Sorbetti himself, though his eyes, nose, and mouth are hidden (though one of the lumps is his nose covered with snow). While hidden, Sorbetti contains two Coins, two red Star Bits, and a Sling Star. His snow spikes cause Mario to slip if he tries to climb them. Once Mario uses the Sling Star to reach the slightly larger spherical planetoid below (internally named the Yukkina Body Planet), the above planetoid will reveal himself as a monster and drops down onto the lower planetoid, starting the fight. Sorbetti then starts rolling around it to attack Mario. As this is Sorbetti's only form of attack, Mario must damage his sole weak spot by spinning his nose as he rolls around the planetoid, much in the same way he would defeat a Ruby Rock. Two trees and various snow pillars positioned at various intervals around the planetoid serve as obstacles and hinder Mario's movement.
If Sorbetti runs into a pillar of snow, the pillar will be destroyed, and Sorbetti will bounce away from it slightly before continuing his attack (the same will happen if he runs into one of the trees on the planetoid). This may be better or worse for the player, depending on how Mario's location changes during the battle. Mario can also destroy a pillar with a spin. Upon being destroyed, a snow pillar may occasionally reveal a coin, although the trees always guarantee a coin upon being destroyed by Sorbetti. These pillars cannot be fully cleared from the planetoid, since a new one will pop up after a few are destroyed. Sometimes, after a snow pillar drops a coin, a new snow pillar may appear over it and hide it from the player.
If Sorbetti hits Mario, he will laugh and start rolling in the opposite direction. When Mario hits Sorbetti, he will be knocked backward, pause briefly, and then continue his attack. Although Sorbetti is considerably big, if Mario performs a precise jump followed by a spin, he can jump over him without taking damage.[6] After Sorbetti is hit once, he gets angrier, changing his facial expression and rolling more quickly. After Sorbetti is hit twice, he will become even angrier and roll around the planetoid even faster and more erratically while emitting irritated sounds. When Mario finally hits Sorbetti a third time, the boss is knocked backward and explodes, rewarding Mario with the mission's Power Star.
Although the Co-Star Luma cannot be directed toward Sorbetti's nose, it can still damage him with a spin. The Co-Star Luma can be directed toward the snow pillars, and, like Mario, they can break them with a spin.

Sorbetti is a giant pointy snowball. It's almost as big as the planetoid it calls home. To defeat the boss, you must smack its red nose three times. This is harder than it sounds because Sorbetti rolls around to hide its schnozz. You need to judge where Sorbetti's face will touch down as it rolls around, and then zoom in to deliver a spin attack smack. At first, steer clear of Sorbetti and just observe. Get a feel for how fast it rolls before making your first run on its nose. When you see Sorbetti start to roll face down, cut in front of it and spin attack just as its nose touches the ice. You can jump up and spin into its nose, but that's a tough thing to time. It is much easier just to wait for the nose to roll down to the surface. After two swats to the beak, Sorbetti gets pretty steamed. The sinister snowball's speed increases, making it more difficult to cut in front of it and pop its nose before getting smooshed. Watch and wait. When you spot your chance, zip in from the side and spin. The snowball releases the Power Star.

Naming
Etymology
According to a European episode of The Cat Mario Show, "Sorbetti" is a portmanteau of "sorbet", a cold dessert, and "Yeti".[7] It may also incorporate the Italian suffix "-etti".

Notes
- Sorbetti appears in the Super Mario Galaxy 2 section of the European, snow-themed episode 22 of The Cat Mario Show. In the episode, Cat Mario asks viewers what Sorbetti's weak spot is, with the options being: 1. Arms, 2. Eyes, 3. Nose, and 4. Mouth. The correct option is his nose.[3]
- Through TAS, it is possible to reach Sorbetti with the Rock Mario form. Hitting Sorbetti's nose with Rock Mario's boulder form will damage him.[22]
