The Office of the Vice President for Research and Extension is directly responsible for
all the research and extension programs of the University. The office directly supervises
the operations of the Research, Development Office and the Extension Office.
Vision
A trailblazer in arts, science and technology in the region.
Mission:
The University shall primarily provide advanced instruction and professional training
in science and technology, agriculture, fisheries, education and other relevant fields of
study. It shall also undertake research and extension services, and provide progressive
leadership in its areas of specialization.
Goals
To produce graduates with excellence and dignity in arts, science and technology.
University Objectives
a. Enhance human resource competency, development, commitment,
professionalism, unity and true spirit of service for public accountability,
transparency and delivery of quality services;
b. Provide relevant programs and professional trainings that will respond
to the development needs of the region;
c. Strengthen local and international collaborations and partnerships for
borderless programs;
d. Develop a research culture among faculty and students;
e. Develop and promote environmentally-sound and market-driven
knowledge and technology at par with international standards;
f. Promote research-based information and technologies for sustainable
development; and
g. Enhance resource generation and mobilization to sustain financial
viability of the University.
Guided by the foregoing VMGO and driven by our core values, Fairness,
Accountability, Transparency, Excellence and Service to God and people (FATES), we
have conceptualized the following roadmap and timeline:
To guarantee commitment to perform the duties and responsibilities and to support the
management’s roadmap and SKSU’s Vision, Mission, Goals and Objectives, I hereby
commit to perform the following duties and responsibilities to the best of my abilities:
a. Provide leadership in strategic planning in research and extension, and
determine major thrusts and foci of the University research and extension
programs to create impact on target-clientele;
b. Formulate general policies, plan guidelines and direction that would govern
the operation of the various units within the division and recommend these
for approval to higher authorities;
c. Coordinate short-term and medium-term research and extension program
planning and implementation with different Campus Directors;
d. Initiate and administer the planning and implementation of programs and
projects designed to promote and enhance the linkage of the University;
e. Establish linkages with private and government sectors in the national and
international levels for possible research grants ;
f. Direct, coordinate, monitor and supervise the R&D programs and other
related activities of the University;
g. Recommend patentable technologies for application and registration;
h. Determine and recommend to higher authorities the financial requirements
of the division and administer the use of the same;
i. Recommend the recruitment and hiring of the needed personnel of the
division and prescribe their duties and responsibilities.
j. Conduct an annual inventory of resources, on-going and completed
researches, and technologies generated for the development of the
University and service areas.
k. Require faculty and staff to conduct research and present and publish papers
in the ISI & refereed journals.
l. Initiate the accreditation of research journal as peer reviewed/refereed
journal.
m. Enhance the capabilities of faculty and staff to improve R&D outputs.
n. Prepare and submit pertinent papers and recommendations to the VP-RDE
(i.e. monthly, quarterly, annual reports, etc.)
o. Perform other functions pertinent to R&D as necessary on as directed by
higher authorities.
