Bachelor of Arts in Political Science

At Saint Louis College, they required us to undergo an on-the-jo training for
200 hours. Frankly speaking, it took us more than a week to choose a government
agency that is suitable for our chosen degree. Amidst that nerve-wracking-agency-
hunting week, we found security and peace at Civil Service Commission Regional
Office 1. The reason why we chose this agency is because the employees were so
accommodating as well as the office's ambiance.
We gained so much insights, skills and knowledge throughout the short
period of my training. By reading, checking and tallying paperworks regarding
seminars and training conducted by my division (i.e Anti Violence Against Women
And Children, Anti-Sexual Harassment and etc.), i was able to strengthen my
knowledge competence. I was able to understand the importance and essence of
the aforementioned seminars. It definitely helped me to look back at the lessons
I’ve learned from my law classes in college. Furthermore, interpersonal
competency was also acquired from constantly asking questions to my colleagues
and relating my concerns to them. They helped me give full attention to my
weaknesses not only to the job but in the very real life. I was filled with awe
observing how my colleagues fulfill their duties and responsibilities inside the
office. They were able to teach me stuffs on how to accommodate clients, give full
attention to their particular concerns and the like.
This training has given us a lot of knowledge and good values that will be
useful in our chosen careers. At first, it was a very shy encounter, I was so
embarrassed to do stuff and was to afraid to do mistakes. But I learned that
learnings could also come by committing mistakes. You learn after you do
something and correct those mistakes. But then again, as we get along with them,
i was able to overcome this shyness and became a little bit out there. I suddenly
want to reach out and share my cabinet of curiosities.
Every day was a blessing. Civil Service Commission - Human Resource
Division was a wonderful experience for me. This on-the-job training helped me a
lot in realizing how a public servant should work inside an office or a government
agency. I learned that you should commit whole-heartedly to your job and not just
merely looking at it a job. It's definitely not just all about the money but it's all
about the public service itself; serving the citizens of the Philippines effectively and
efficiently. This OJT is not only been taken as a requirement for my course but it
really served as a great memory, experience and a journey of my life. Aa things
been said and done... Maraming Salamat, Civil Service Regional Office 1! This is
Johannalyn Sanchez signing off.
