Activity # 4 – English

1. In this exercise you have to read the situation and then write a sentence with
the present perfect continuous (I have been doing).

A. Ann is very tired (she / work / hard) she has been working hard.
B. Bob has a black eye and Bill has a cut lip (Bob and Bill / fight) They has
been fighting.
C. George has just come back from the beach. He is very red (he / lie / in
the sun) he has been lie in the suning.
D. Janet is hot and tired. (She / play / tennis) she has been playing tennis.

2. This time you have to ask a question for each situation.

- You see a little boy. His eyes are red and water (you / cry)
Have you been crying?
- You have just arrived to meet your friend who is waiting for you (you /
wait / long?)
- You has been waiting long?
- Your friend comes in. His face and hands are very dirty. (What / you /
do?)
- You has been what doing?

3. Now you have to say how long something has been happening .

- Kevin is studying. He started studying three hours ago. He was studying


for three hours
- I am learning Spanish. I started learning Spanish in December. I have
been learning Spanish since December.
- Ann is looking for work. He started searching six months ago. He already
working for six months.
- Mary is working in London. He started working there on January 18. She
was working since January 18.
- George smokes. He started smoking five years ago. He was smoking for
five years.

4. Expresa todas las oraciones anteriores en Español

Punto 1:

A. Ann está muy cansada (ella / trabaja / mucho) ha estado trabajando duro.
B. Bob tiene un ojo morado y Bill tiene un labio cortado (Bob y Bill / pelea)
Han estado peleando.

C. George acaba de regresar de la playa. Está muy rojo (está / tumbado / al


sol) ha estado tumbado al sol.
D. Janet tiene calor y está cansada. (Ella / juega / tenis) ha estado jugando

Punto 2:

- Ves a un niño. Sus ojos están rojos y llorosos (tú / lloras)


¿Has estado llorando?
- Acabas de llegar a encontrarte con tu amigo que te está esperando (¿tú /
esperar / mucho?)
¿Ha estado esperando mucho?
- Entra tu amigo. Tiene la cara y las manos muy sucias. (¿Que haces?)
¿Qué has estado haciendo?

Punto 3:

- Kevin está estudiando. Empecé a estudiar hace tres horas. Él estuvo


estudiando durante tres horas
- Estoy aprendiendo español. Empecé a aprender español en diciembre. He
estado aprendiendo español desde diciembre.
- Ann está buscando trabajo. Empecé a buscar hace seis meses. Ya llevo
trabajando seis meses.
- Mary está trabajando en Londres. Allí empezó a trabajar el 18 de enero.
Ella trabajaba desde el 18 de enero.
- George fuma. Empecé a fumar hace cinco años. Estuvo fumando durante
cinco años.
