Wonder Movie Review: A Heartfelt Tale

The movie Wonder is based on the book of the same name and tells the story of August Pullman, a 10-year-old boy born with a facial deformity. After being homeschooled by his parents to protect him, August enrolls in a mainstream school. There he tries to integrate and live a normal life despite facing challenges. The film features a talented child cast led by Jacob Tremblay who gives a moving performance as August. Though the film effectively conveys an important message of acceptance and kindness, some felt August's grandmother's favoritism of her niece over him was confusing and detracted from the overall life lessons of the film.

Wonder-review

The movie “Wonder’’appeared in 2017 and is inspired by the book written by R.J Palacio. The title
refers to the principal character, August Pullman. He was born with a terrible facial deformity. The
word “wonder” is significant for him, and watching this movie will make you see things differently.
The quotation on the cover, “Don’t judge people by their face” concludes an idea which a big part of
the world has if they watch this movie. August Pullman is a 10 years old boy who has a good mind.
His parents educated him at home, so they could protect him from evil people. But one day, they
decided to enroll him to a normal school. Along the way, he tries to get integrated and live a normal
life. It’s an emotional story full of sensibility and humor.

The movie’s cast consists of many children who show professionalism. Jacob Tremblay, the boy who
plays August Pullamn, is charismatic and succeeds in giving an emotional note to some scenes. From
this point of view, the audience could be surprised in a good way. The script is interesting and
captivating. Two important scenes are when August is betrayed by his best friend and when they
bury the hatchet. The children watching this film will be able to draw conclusions and learn how
powerful a word can be. Also, a thing that not many people that have seen the movie know is that
the boy who plays August doesn’t have facial problems. The character’s makeup is well done
because the main subject is about August’s medical problems. The movie has a plus because it didn’t
choose the CGI technigue. If they had chosen this technique, the movie would not have been so
realistic.

Despite the genuinely interesting cast choices, August's grandmother's attitude isn’t right for the
movie. She favors her niece because she thinks August is already protected and loved by her
parents. This is a minus for the movie because the children could be confused.

In conclusion, the film is a life lesson for any person, regardless of age It is a story about integration
and acceptance, about courage and kindness, which can reach the heart of anyone very easily. The
film represents the reality of all children suffering from certain disabilities.
