Bridge Tournament Scoring Guide

International Match Point Table


In tournaments with two tables, it is usual to use International Match Points or IMPs to calculate the results. To calculate the IMP result for a board, the
difference in the point scores for the board on the two tables is calculated and the IMP value is then obtained from the following table and awarded to
the side which had the better score.

Note that if, for example, the N/S pair on one table scored points for the board and the E/W pair on the other table also scored points, then the point
difference is obtained by adding the two point scores.

Matchpoint Scoring
To quote from the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge 1987, matchpoint scoring functions as follows:

In matchpoint scoring each contestant is awarded, for scores made by different contestants who have played the same board and whose scores are
compared with his:

two scoring units (matchpoints or half matchpoints) for each score inferior to his,
one scoring unit for each score equal to his, and
zero scoring units for each score superior to his.
