Onderneeming is a large village found in region number two (2) Pomeroon-Supenaam. It is

located in the county of Essequibo, Guyana. It is about 16. Km away from the town of Anna Regina.

Task 2: Reasons for Selecting Area of Research

There is a saying that goes “If there is magic on this planet, it is contained in the water, because
water is life. However in the village of Onderneeming, almost all the water ways are have become
polluted. Water pollution occurs and microorganisms contaminate the stream, river, Lake Etc.
Degrading the water quality and rendering it toxic to humans or the environment.

In the village of Onderneeming it has been observed that a sore issue has slowly developed, that
is canals, drains, trenches and streams have become a dumping site for garbage an unwanted materials
resulting in almost all the water ways becoming polluted. This has resulted in the increase death of both
animals and aquatic plants which lead to the increase death rate of both aquatic plants and animals
which lead to a disruption in the food chain. These garbage which have been dumped into that after
produces a foul odor this making residents feel discomfort. Many persons also use some of these water
ways for domestic purposes and so they collect stagnant and polluted water which is not healthy
because it aids in spreading water diseases. In addition for the water ways being destroyed by garbage it
becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes.

Therefore the researcher will be conducting on how residents of my community are being
affected by water pollution and ways in which they can prevent this from happening.
