THE CONSTITUTION

Preamble

We, the members of the Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir, imploring the aid of Almighty God,
desirous of establishing an organization that will foster unity and cooperation, enhance our abilities in the
field of arts and music, pursue and prioritize the interest of the group, promote welfare and free exchange
of ideas, conserve and develop our culture and uphold our ideals and values, do ordain and promulgate
this constitution.

ARTICLE I
GENERAL PROVISIONS

Section 1 This organization shall be known as the Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir
(SJS Student’s Choir)

Section 2 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir shall be directly under the SJS Administration
through the office of Culture and Arts Department.

Section 3 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir shall function in adherence to the rules and
regulation, guidelines, and instruction of the school and shall implement a
democratic organizational system.

ARTICLE II
DECLARATION OF PRINCIPLES AND OBJECTIVES

Section 1 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir disregards creed, religion, and social status in
the pursuance of this constitution.

Section 2 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir recognizes and respects the liberty and believes
that the deep sense of justice to each member must be pursued in the context of
this Constitution.

Section 3 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir shall have the following General Objectives:
a. To set standards of excellence in choral singing.
b. To establish the school as an active and respected member of the local and national
choral community.
c. To promote unity and cooperation and proper motivations imperative to school,
social, and cultural development.
d. To develop the students in their full capacity to be a well – rounded individual with
an understanding of the significance of their culture and tradition.

Section 4 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir shall have the following Specific Objectives:
a. To tap the talents and potentials of the students and amateur artists.
b. To develop a sense of service and responsibility for the welfare of a good and ideal
group.
c. To strive and help its members attain and maintain excellence in the field of music, at
the same time, maintaining approved excellent academic grades.
d. To develop the Bicolano’s appreciation for choral music.

ARTICLE III
MEMBERSHIP

Section 1 Any bonafide student of the Saint Joseph School can be a member of the Saint Joseph
School Student’s Choir provided further that:
a. He or she is not an active member of any choral or singing group except if the club
moderator is well-informed and he or she is taking requires the membership thereof.
b. He or she must not have been civilly convicted nor subjected to any disciplinary
action both inside and outside the campus.
c. He or she must have no failing grade in any subject during the quarter immediately
preceding the application and until the school year ends.
d. He or she must have completed the requirements necessary for the audition laid down
by the Committee on Recruitment and Admission.

Section 2 Membership in the Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir is classified into three (3):
a. Performer (Advanced)
b. Stand – In Performer (Reserved)
c. Trainee (Beginner)

Section 3 A Performer is anyone who has stayed at least two (2) whole quarters in the group and
has mastered the standard repertoire of Choir songs as well as the regular pieces
in a concert repertoire.

Section 4 A Stand – In Performer is anyone who has stayed for at least one quarter in the group and
has familiarized him or herself with the standard repertoire.

Section 5 A Trainee is anyone who does not fall under the first two (2) classifications.

Section 6 Any member may have stayed for more than one (1) quarter can still be classified as a
trainee. Likewise, a member may have stayed for more than two (2) quarters can
still classified as a Stand – In Performer.
ARTICLE IV
RIGHTS AND OBLIGATIONS OF MEMBERS

Section 1 Every member has the rights to voice out opinions, suggestions, criticisms, and
clarifications on matters of organizational concerns.

Section 2 Every Performer has, in addition, the rights to:


a. Elect and be elected.
b. Enjoy performance depending upon the result of his/her voice classification and
performance standard.
c. Work on the maintenance of upgrade of his scholarship and status in the group.

Section 3 Every Stand – In Performer has, in addition, the rights to:


a. Elect and be elected.
b.Enjoy performance depending upon the result of his/her voice classification and
performance standard.
c. Work on the maintenance of upgrade of his scholarship and status in the group.

Section 4 Every Trainee has, in addition, the rights to:


a. Elect, if he/she has stayed for more than one quarter.
b. Enjoy performance depending upon the result of his/her voice classification and
performance standard.
c. Work on the maintenance of upgrade of his scholarship and status in the group.

Section 5 Every member of the group is obliged to:


a. Uphold the provisions of this constitution and policies that may be promulgated for
the interest and welfare of the organization and its members.
b. Participate actively in all activities of the organization.
c. Attend all regular meetings, rehearsals, and scheduled special rehearsals.
d. Have the mastery of the standard repertoire of the choir songs and all pieces in a
concert repertoire.
e. Prove himself worthy through loyalty, commitment, and attendance in all
engagements and rehearsals.
f. Promptly pay his/her financial obligation as may be required from time to time if
there is any.

Section 6 Every Performer has, in addition, an obligation to:


a. Perform in all engagements as required.
b. Stay in the group during the entire duration of his/her membership unless he or she
submitted a resignation letter. The resignation letter will be assessed by the Club
Moderator if the reason/s for resignation is worthy to be granted.
Section 7 Every Stand – In Performer has, in addition, an obligation to:
a. Take the place of a performer in case where latter, be any valid reason, is not
available.
b. Stay in the group during the entire duration of his/her membership unless he or she
submitted a resignation letter. The resignation letter will be assessed by the Club
Moderator if the reason/s for resignation is worthy to be granted.

Section 8 Every Trainee has, in addition, an obligation to:


a. Assist the group in all engagements as technical staff or props men.
b. Join the UNC Glee Club’s engagements when needed.
c. Stay in the group during the entire duration of his/her membership unless he or she
submitted a resignation letter. The resignation letter will be assessed by the Club
Moderator if the reason/s for resignation is worthy to be granted.

ARTICLE V
DUTIES AND QUALIFICATIONS OF OFFICERS

Section 1 The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir line of officers shall include the:
a. President
b. Vice – President
c. Assistant Secretary
d. Treasurer
e. Public Information Officer
f. Business Managers
1. Property Custodian
2. Musical Trappings Custodian

Aside from the officers, there shall be two (2) voice leaders of each voice. The voice
leaders shall be appointed by the choirmaster and may or may not be an officer.

All officers and Voice leaders must be Performers.

Section 2 The President shall be the head of the club and sits as Chairman of the Committee on
Discipline. He presides in all meetings, represents the club in every occasion and
implements plans and activities.

Section 3 The Vice – President shall assist the President at all times in the management of the club
and assumes therein functions of the latter in case of his absence. The Vice –
President shall sit as Chairman of the Committee on Deliberation.

Section 4 The Secretary shall keep the general organizational records, including minutes of
meetings, attendance records, list of members, and journal of activities of the
organization. He/she shall perform other functions assigned by the
President.

The Secretary shall act also as the UNC Glee Club Librarian.

The Saint Joseph School Student’s Choir Librarian shall handle all the musical scores of
the club. He/she shall be responsible for the reproduction of all the scores and
ascertain that members have complete set of scores.

Section 5 The Treasurer – elect must preferably a trustworthy and has gcash account.
The Treasurer shall handle the funds, keep financial records, and make reports to the
body at the end of each month.

The Auditor shall keep an inventory of all properties and shall act as the Property
Custodian of the organization. He/she shall make monthly review of the book of
accounts and other related documents and certify all financial records.

Section 6 The Public Information Officer (PIO) shall be in – charge of all communications,
information services of the organization and shall keep a calendar of activities of
the club. He/she shall sit as Chairman of the Committee on Admission and
Recruitment.

Section 7 There shall be two (2) Business Managers who will transact business under the
supervision of the President. The two (2) Business Managers will act as
Chairman of the Committee on Props & Costume and Musical Trappings.

The Property Custodian shall keep an inventory of all properties and costumes of the
Club.

The Property Custodian shall be in – charge in the maintenance and orderliness of the
SJS Students’ Choir stockroom and rehearsal area.

The Musical Trappings Custodian shall keep an inventory of all the instruments if there is
any, and other musical accessories used in the rehearsals and performances.

The Musical Trappings Custodian shall be in – charge in the safekeeping of all the
musical paraphernalia, recording of songs and setting up of the keyboard and
other instruments, including microphones, during rehearsals and performances.

The Musical Trappings Custodian shall keep an inventory of all the instruments,
recording of songs, and musical paraphernalia.

Section 8 Any officer shall sit in the same position for two (2) consecutive terms. Voice leaders
may assume position until the choirmaster relieves them in their post.

Section 9 The term for all officers shall be one fiscal year.

ARTICLE VI
CONSTITUTION COMMITTEES

Section I There shall be five (5) Constitutional Committees:


a. Committee on Discipline
b. Committee on Deliberation
c. Committee on Admission and Recruitment

Section 2 The Committee on Discipline shall be headed by the President – elect with the set of
officers and voice leaders as members.
The Committee on Discipline shall be in – charge in maintaining discipline in the group
and shall have the power of imposing penalty to any member who is in guilt in
violation of this Constitution and the Saint Joseph School Code.

Section 3 The Committee on Deliberation shall be in – charge in ascertaining that the criteria for
deliberation are effective and appropriate. They shall also have the power of
revising the criteria if such are proven untimely and futile.

Section 4 The Committee on Admission and Recruitment shall be in – charge in the campaign and
recruitment of new members. It shall likewise, schedule the date for auditions
and reproduce the application forms and prepare campaign materials.

ARTICLE VII
MEETING AND ELECTIONS

Section 1 The regular meeting of members with the choirmaster shall be every Day 7,
3:00 pm to 04:00 pm.

Section 2 Voice leaders shall hold its sectional rehearsals if needed.

Section 3 The officers and voice leaders shall hold its monthly evaluation.

Section 4 The election shall commence every school year.

ARTICLE VIII
AMENDMENTS OR REVISION

Section 1 Any amendment to, or revision of, this Constitution may be proposed by the members at
any regular meeting of the Club upon of three – fourths of all its members.

Section 2 Any amendment to, or revision of, this Constitution under Section 1, shall be valid only if
such changes were proposed at least three (1) year after the effectivity of the latest
proposed changes in this Constitution.

ARTICLE IX
EFFECTIVITY

Section 1 This Constitution shall be ratified by the majority of votes or fifty percent – plus one of
all members.

Section 2 This Constitution shall be effective immediately after its ratification.
