LESSON PLAN IN GRADE 10 – ENGLISH
Content Standard:
The learner demonstrates understanding of how world literature serves as a vehicle of expressing and resolving
conflicts between and among individuals or groups through using strategies in critical reading, listening, and
viewing to evaluate text content, elements, features, and properties; extemporaneous and impromptu public
speaking; and using of affirmation/negation markers.
I – LEARNING COMPETENCY:
EN10VC-IVc-29 Appraise the unity of plot, setting and characterization in a material
viewed to achieve the writer’s purpose.
Objectives:
A) Retell events from the text in response to questions to show reading
comprehension.
B) Plot the story structure using Freytag’s Pyramid and a story map.
C) Appreciate the beauty of real friendship.

ACTIVITY (4 minutes)
Task 4: Unlocking of difficulties.
1. Pneumonia - a serious disease that affects the lungs and makes it difficult to
breathe
2. Masterpiece - something done with great skill such as book, painting, movie
and etc.
3. Vine - a plant that has very long stems and that grows along the ground or up
and around something (such as a wall or tree)
4. Severe - very bad, serious, or unpleasant
5. Watchdog - a person or organization that makes sure that companies,
governments, people and etc., are not doing anything illegal or
wrong
6. Canvas - a specially prepared piece of cloth on which a picture can be painted
by an artist
Task 4: READING TIME (10 minutes)
Let the students read the story: THE LAST LEAF
ANALYSIS (8 minutes)
Task 4: DIGGING THE CIRCUMSTANCES
1. What is Johnsy’s illness?
2. What do you think made Johnsy consider that her possible death would be
simultaneous with the last leaf to fall? What is its connection with her illness?
3. What helps Johnsy recover from her illness? Do you think it is psychological in
nature? Why?
ABSTRACTION (5 minutes)
Ask the following questions.
1. What are the two common graphic organizers used for better
comprehension of a story?
2. How can you recover from an illness?
3. Why is true friendship valuable to everybody?
