Project Report on Tree Plantation

Preface: First of all we (Bhaktapur Rover/Ranger) like to extend our heartiest thanks to the Japanese Rover from the PaxIV Hyper for nature conservation project in Nepal. The project started on 15th September 2002 as a twining project between Nepal (Bhaktapur) Rover / Ranger Scouts and the Japanese (PaxIV) Rovers at Sipadol V.D.C ward no 9. The main objective of the project is to conserve the nature by activating new trend in the conservational field. During the past years Nepal used to be the land of the forest. Many mountains and land were covered with trees. But due to the increase in population and urbanization, people cut off the trees randomly for their daily needs for the purpose of the fuel, furniture, etc. Realizing this problem, this project was started. Moreover, this project will aim maintain the bilateral relationship between the scouts of the Japan and Nepal. About 300 trees were planted which of were of different species. The planted site was a part of the community forest. The participation of the local people and their eagerness mutually has made the project more fruitful. Participants: Participants are rover scouts, ranger scouts, boy and girl scouts and the scoutmasters, the rover scouts from Japan, and the community forest members and the local villagers. Trees Description: About 300 trees were planted which are of different species. The name of the trees are listed as: Conclusion: The keen interest and the positive response of the local villagers in the project have helped them become aware conserving nature. As we analyze they are eager to work with these type of the projects. For the benefit of the scout, we will have the different scouting activities in those places. Regular hiking, pioneering programmes will be done for the future improvement as part of the project

Supervision and follow up: Under the District Executive Committee, a project management committee was formed. This committee contains the rover scouts and their responsibility is to supervise the project regularly. The committee members are: Robindra Basukala Saroj Kumar Suwal Achyut Prajapati On 1st October 2002, supervision was done to the project place. The unnecessary bushes and the plants were cleaned up. By this it will help the planted trees grow faster. Moreover some ditches (khadal) were dug up as the cleared grasses are kept there so as to make the compost, which later could be use for the plants. There were altogether eleven rovers and eleven rangers who volunteered on this. They are quite interested in such work. Future plan We have planned the project in the way that water source, and the place for compost will be managed and maintained properly. Problems we faced Regarding the problem, we lack materials for maintaining the area like material for cleaning. We took some of the material we have, but that were not sufficient. Annexes: Photos
