Introduction.
Ephesians 4:11-16
The reason for the Local Church is explained in this text, as a training of a particular set of
people.
Paul calls it the "perfecting of the saints" which is the word /KARTARTISMOS/ in the new
testament Greek.
/KARTARTISMOS/ used 1 time in 1 verse. It's cognate verb is /KATARTIZO/ which was
used 13 times in 13 verses.
Jesus uses it once in a significant way,
Luke 6:40
He explains the word in the light of an undergoing work of discipleship. He spoke as to there
being processes that will make the man as the master.
Thus, in Church there will be a process of training.
Another crucial place is,
1 Corinthians 1:10
Paul teaches that to say one is trained in Church, is that you have a definite knowledge and all
have the same things. Christ does not expect we all have our own idea or opinion.
"Speak" is the word /LEGO/ inthe Greek.
It is a primary verb that means to lay forth or figuratively to relate in words usually of a
systematic or set discourse. That is, same presentation.
"Perfectly joined" is the word /KARTARTIZO/ in the Greek.
It was used 13 times in 13 verses.
It means to be trained.
"Judgement" is the word /GNOME/ in the Greek.
It was used 9 times in 8 verses.
It means the mind, opinion or one's purpose.
We are not permitted in the faith to have independent opinions, moreso, in the Local church, to
say you submit means you are of the same view.
"Division" is the word /SCHISMA/ in the Greek.
It was used 8 in 8 verses.
It means a split or a gap.
Therefore, to be trained in a local church implies a sharing of the same mind on all subject
matters.
Ephesians 4:11-16
Paul in teaching the singular work of the Church as the perfecting of saints, uses relevant words
to outline his understanding.
vs 12,
A lay man reading of this verse will bring about a misunderstanding of Paul's entire write up,
thus, we must approach our study of the verse with the lenses of Paul.
Notably, Paul uses the word 'for' three times which makes it as though the purpose of the Church
are three things, but Paul explains otherwise.
The first word 'for' is /PROS/ in the Greek and it's a word of direction, that is, it shows purpose.
The second and third word 'for' is /EIS/ in the Greek and it's a word of consequence, that is, it
shows implication.
So, reading with the lenses of Paul, what we have is a singular work of the Church that has
double consequence.
This work, Paul teaches is such that affects every area of the saints life and it has a definite end
as ordained by God.
vs 13,
Paul elaborates on the work of the Church, he explains it as bringing us to God's definite end,
"measure of the stature.."
'measure' is /METRON/ in the Greek, showing degree.
'stature' is /HELIKEIA/ in the Greek, showing a level of growth.
Thus, Paul is teaching that when the Church does it's work, we will see the individual saint attain
a level of growth that will dictate to his or her activities and it is by knowledge.
'unity of the... knowledge of the son of God'.
"Unity" is the word /HENOTES/ in the Greek.
It means oneness, union or unity. This is in the light of a conglometer of parts.
This is reflected in the subsequent verse.
Vs 15, " that we grow up into Him in all things…"
"All" is the word /PAS/ in the Greek.
It is a word that takes cognisance of different things. Therefore, the believer is to grow up in
Christ in different aspects of the faith.
There is a specific, definite knowledge that the believer is to be exposed to in other to have an
effective walk.
The believer's growth to the level of Christ is in maturity and size. The very maturity of the man
is such that dictates his or her activities.
Number One.
There is the God given work for the Church, which is to perfect the Saints via a message. A man
said to be undergoing training in a local church must be one of the same mind with all others in
the Church, that is, there ought to be no division in the Church as to their knowledge of the truth.
What accounts for the presentation of the same things and having the same mind in Church is the
doctrine presented in God's Word.
This doctrine has been laid down by the Apostles and Prophets with Paul having a key role in
this.
Ephesians 2:19-22
1 Corinthians 3:9-11
2 Peter 3:15-16
Peter acknowledges Paul's message as being the scriptures, the divinely inspired book given to
be followed by God through His spirit.
We are to end up speaking the same things by simply following what the Apostles have put in
place.
Ephesians 3:1-5
Paul himself speaks of how he came about his writing. He calls it the revelation of the mystery of
God. He owns up to have the knowledge of the revelation of the mystery of God and has written
it down for us to read and understand.
Romans 16:25-26
"Establish" is the word /STERIZO/ in the Greek.
It is used 13 times in 13 verses.
It means to be set fast, to get something tied down or to be made resolute and fast.
Paul is teaching that his doctrine is such that will make man resolute on what to do, what should
be and what should not be.
Some of its usage are,
Luke 9:51
Luke 22:32
Romans 1:11
James 5:8
2 Peter 1:12-15
Revelation 3:2
Therefore, on this subject matter and any other subject matter, the believer must be resolute and
fixed. On the fact of healing, there must be a resolute stand the believer must have from his or
her understanding of the scriptures.
Healing
On the subject matter of healing, there are 6 critical questions to be asked and answered.
What?
Why?
How?
When?
Where?
Who?
What is Divine Healing?
This is when one is physically healed by the power of God spiritually. It is a curative or
preventive work of God's power in the body of a man that makes the man physically healed or
prevents the man from being physically sick.
Divine Healing is a physical reality of change as the result of a spiritual work.
Acts 10:38
Matthew 8:14
"Fever left her" a physical change occurred in her body.
Therefore, any definition on healing is simply with the fact of a physical change to the sick or
inflicted body of a person.
Justification for Healing; Why Healing?
The basis for healing is the presence of a defined reality of sicknesses which is spiritual.
Romans 5:12-end.
The reason for death, curse and sickness, is the choice of man. This man is now found having a
body subject to death.
Luke 13:16
Mortality of man is because he is under a bondage which is spiritual.
"..whom Satan hath bound"
Ephesians 1:19-23
This verses spells out how Jesus has gained the authority over all other power and supposed
authority.
Jesus by suffering all of death demands, has undone all of death's reign and reality. In all that
Christ went through at the resurrection, the right of death was destroyed upon all flesh.
The justification for Healing is the existence of a spiritual cause (sin and death) and a spiritual
solution (Redemption).
Ephesians 3:20
The power of God was worked in Christ so as to make it available to us today. The power of
Christ undid all of death in its right.
In conclusion, the reality of healing stems from the fact of a spiritual cause of sin and death
which entered the world by man and has made man subject to it. There is yet a spiritual solution,
God's answer and response to the intrusion of sin, Redemption.
In redemption is the availability of the power of God and the authority of the name of Jesus to
bring about about a spiritual solution of healing, causing a physical change to any sick body
completely.
Acts 3: 6, Peter's exercise of the power and authority.
Number Two.
Ephesians 4:11-16
Paul teaches the purpose of the Church as a training of the Saints unto a definite end and walk.
Vs 13, he gives an exposition on the destination of the training which is an wholesome
knowledge but moreso he speaks of the training as being unto the reality of our persons.
"...the knowledge of the son of God, the perfect man"
"The measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ.."
God's desire is for every Saint to grow to a particular degree which Paul calls the perfect man,
the stature of Christ fullness.
The training of the Church also takes into cognisance the similarity of the saints in their
knowledge and judgement of all subject matter. (1 Corinthians 1:10).
This training is via a message,
1 Corinthians 3:9-11
Ephesians 2:19-22
Ephesians 3:1
The message is that which the Apostles and Prophets have laid down with Paul having the
presentation of the revelation of God's mystery.
God gave Paul the grace to lay it down.
Paul's attestation
Romans 16:25-26
"establish" is the Greek /STERIZO/.
It means to be fixed and stable.
That is, we are to be fixed, resolute and stabilized by Paul's doctrine.
On every subject matter in the faith, believers are expected to be found resolute, stable and fixed
from the understanding of the scriptures.
Healing
On healing, we must look at the message that has been laid down by the Apostles and Prophets
and be resolute, fixed and stable in the same.
What does the message present to us about healing?
There are 6 critical questions that the scriptures use in explaining out healing, following the
healing scenarios.
What?
Why?
How?
When?
Where? and
Who?
Summary of the questions on healing
Healing is a physical change to a sick body caused by a spiritual and divine power.
Its existence is on the fact of an existing spiritual cause of all sicknesses, sin and a spiritual
solution which is Redemption in Christ where Jesus has gained authority over all by the working
of God's power and therefore sin, death and it's right over man or matter has been undone.
Today, healing is ever wrought by the constant and active power of God which was made
available at the resurrection of Jesus. The event of healing occurs when faith meets the constant
power of God, there is no limit to the place or time. This reality of healing where there is ever the
constant power of God and Authority in the name of Jesus, boils down to certain parties whose
Faith are considered as the variable.
There is the,
Ministers Faith
Recipients Faith and
Third party Faith
Their faith to whatever degree determines the result as their faith is exercised towards the already
constant healing power of God.
The scriptures teach and scholars have drawn out from such, that whenever healing takes place
one of the following must happen,
1. Minister's faith only
2. Recipients Faith only
3. Third party's faith only
4. Minister and Recipients faith only
5. Minister and third party's faith only
6. Recipients and third party's faith only
7. Minister, Recipient and third party's faith only
These have been termed "Hypothetical scenarios" of healing in the scriptures, drawn from
healing cases.
Healings and their Hypothetical scenarios
1. Minister's Faith only:
Matthew 8:14-15 - Peter's mother in-law
Matthew 8:28 - Mad men of Gergesenes
Mark 8:22 - Blind man at Bethsaida
John 11:43 - Lazarus
Acts 9:40 - Tabitha
These are few of the many instances where the minister's Faith alone was exercised.
2. Recipients Faith only:
All the Mass cases of Jesus and the Apostles
Matthew 4:23
Matthew 9:35
Luke 6:17
Matthew 9:20 - Woman who had the issue of blood
These are few of the other instances where the recipients Faith only was exercised to arrive at the
healing result.
3. Third party's Faith only:
Mark 7:31 - The mute
Acts 19:11-12 - Mass case
These are few of the other instances where the third party's Faith only was exercised to arrive at
the healing result.
4. Minister and Recipients Faith only:
Matthew 9:27 - Initial two blind men
Matthew 20:29 - Second two blind men
Luke 5:12 - The leper
Luke 17:11 - Ten Lepers
5. Minister and third party's Faith only:
Matthew 8:5-9 - The Centurion
Matthew 9:18 - Jairus Daughter
John 4:46 - Noble man's son
6. Recipients and third party's Faith only:
Acts 5:15 - Peter shadow
7. Minister, Recipients and third party's Faith only:
Mark 2:1-5 - The Paralytic through the roof
In Conclusion, there is the ever constant healing power of God to cure all sicknesses and
diseases, yet, it works on a sick body to the degree of the faith exercised either by the Minister,
recipient or third party.
Healing results are determined by the degree of faith exercised by the given parties in relation to
the active and constant healing power of God.
Number Three.
The purpose of the Church is the training of the Saints by a definite message which has been laid
down by the Apostles and Prophets. The fact of this already existing message that the Saints are
to be trained in, is such that they must all come to the same persuasion and have the same mind
and judgement on all things.
1 Corinthians 1: 10

constant power of God and Authority in the name of Jesus, boils down to certain parties whose
Faith are considered as the variable.
In every case of healing, there is usually the contribution of every part as to their Faith, it is
important that as a minister, your faith is effective to birth the result of healing. The core issue in
being healed is Faith.
No one doubts God's power for healing, His willingness to wrought the healing.
Faith is not experimentation, it is always focused on a result even if it has to wait out a time, but
it never loses sight of the result.
HEALING SCENARIOS AND THEIR KEY FACTORS.
In each healing case of the scriptures, there are certain key underlying factors that played out on
part of the parties involved.
Some notable Healing Cases of Jesus:
1. Matthew 8:1
From the scenario, we can see that the man had no doubt as to the ability of Jesus. He came for a
result.
"If you are willing" this was a doubt on Christ willingness.
"thou can make me clean"
He had the definite result in mind. He personalized the result, recognizes the ability and knows
the need of the exercise of Will.
2. Matthew 8:5-10
The Centurion
"...go and he goes, come and he comes" a focus on the result.
Vs 8, "only speak.."
"Only" is the word in the Greek /MONON/
It was used 67 times in 66 verses.
It means alone and only.
This is an adamancy on the result by the Centurion, a very stubborn approach towards healing.
3. Matthew 8:14/ Luke 4:38
"Rebuke the result" a focus on the result, a definite result.
There was an exercise of faith's ability through words for the result.
4. Matthew 9:20/Mark 5:27
The woman who had the issue of Blood.
"...made whole" her focus on a definite result.
"When she had heard of Jesus…"
This reflects her persuasion about His willingness and ability to birth the definite result.
Faith is a persuasion of the ability at the exercise of the will to produce a definite result.
5. Mark 9:35
"Only believe"
Jesus asked the dead child's father to have faith on that which he initially came for, the result of
healing.
Jesus repeatedly in the cases above, set out for the result.
6. Matthew 15:21-28
"Yet the dogs eat of the crumbs which fall…"
The Syrophoenician woman was persuaded that she can get the result from Jesus.
Faith is a GRIT until the result
7. Matthew 17: 15-17
"Faithless" is the word in the Greek /APISTOS/
It means to be unpersuaded or unfixed.
"Perverse" is the word in the Greek /DIASTREPHO/
It was used 7 times in 7 verses.
It means to distort, to corrupt and misinterpret.
The disciples made twist and turns as against what Jesus wanted. An absence of faith.
8. Matthew 20:29-34
"Cried out all the more"
Their act of persuasion.
"Lord, that our eyes may be opened"
A definite expression faith of with focus on the definite result.
9. Luke 17:11-17
"Were there not 10 cleansed..."
Jesus was single minded on the result, He expected that all the lepers would be healed.
Acts of the Apostles.
1. Acts 3:1
"Look on us"
"Such as I have"
Peter's faith for the result.
2. Acts 9:34
"arise and make your bed"
Peter's words were an expression of faith.
All of these scenarios of healing show and reflect certain key factors that occurred.
The distinctive feature of healing is such that embedded in every statement of 'Be Healed' there
must be;
1. A definite result
2. A clear recognition of the ability for that result
3. The knowledge that the ability will produce the result based on one's will exercised in words.
In conclusion, to have a healing result the above key factors must take place.
Number Four.
This training is via a message already written by the Apostles and Prophets of which Paul has a
peculiar role.
On the subject matter of healing, healing is a physical change caused by a spiritual means. It
exists as a result of a spiritual cause and a spiritual solution and it occurs when faith meets the
power of God and this is by anyone of faith.
"Faith" is the word in the Greek /PISTIS/
it was used 244 times in 228 verses. It is from the word /PEITHO/ which means to convince or
persuade.
/PISTIS/ leads up to another word /PISTEUO/.
/PISTIS/
some of the usage includes,
Matthew 8:10
Matthew 9:22
Matthew 17:20
Mark 2:5
Mark 10:52
Luke 5:20
Like 7:9
Luke 17:5
Luke 22:32
/PISTEUO/ means heaving faith with respect to a person or thing. By implication, it means to
entrust or commit trust to something or someone.
It was used 264 times in 220 verses. Some of the usage are,
Matthew 8:13
Matthew 9:28
Matthew 24:26
Matthew 27:42
Mark 1:15
Mark 16:14
Mark 16:16-17
Luke 1:7
Luke 24:25
Faith is by nature a single mindedness until the result. Faith for healing is exercised by certain
parties who are,
The minister
The recipient and
The third party.
Faith is not a trial or an experimentation, it is rather a focus of persuasion and conviction on a
particular thing or person.
The healing result gotten by faith in the power of God and expressed by words or actions has
certain key factors which are,
1. God's willingness
2. God's power and
3. Operation of the power at the instance of our Will.
It is a fixation on the result being done by the Will and power of God, at the trigger of our Will.
There is the faith stand peculiar to each party of the healing result.
1. Minister
His or her faith stand is that God's Will and power at the exercise of his or her own will via
words or actions, will immediately (or eventually) produce the definite results in the sick body
ministered to.
2. Recipients
That God's Will and power at the trigger or exercise of the minister's will or his own action, will
produce an immediate (or eventual) healing result in his or her body.
3. Third Party
That God's Will and power at the exercise of the minister's will or his own action will produce an
immediate (or eventual) healing result in the body of the recipient.
It is very much possible that the faith of the third party contributes more towards the healing
result sought for.
In conclusion, there is the reality of healing, that is, a physical change caused by a spiritual
solution due to the existence of a spiritual cause.
The subject matter of healing is definite as it's result is backed up by a constant healing power of
God and faith in the same.
For the healing result to occur, the parties involved ought to take note of the key components of
healing and have a single and definite focus on the result by faith but this ought not to be only in
the case of the sickness, it should be a fixed and continuous faith called a Faith Stand.
