INTRODUCTION
1. General
The Component Maintenance Manual obeys the ATA 100 STD (AIR TRANSPORT ASSOCIATION
AMERICA) revision 26 (AECMA simplified English).
This manual gives the procedures tested by the manufacturer in the workshop. Thus an approved tech-
nician who does not know the equipment can repair it and do a full overhaul on it.
The manual does not include the standard usual procedures, the frequency of the repairs and the proce-
dures which agree with the tools available in the maintenance workshop.
2. Manual Guidelines
                                                                                            INTRO Page 1

3. Identification
     - Part Number,
     - Manufacturers Name,
     - Description of Equipment,
     - Serial Number,
     - Date of Assembly or Test,
     - Inspection Stamp.
   (1) The OXYCREW is a smoke hood, vacuum-packed in a foil and covered by light-weight container.
   (2) The box assembly consists of a box with a hinged top cover. It is equipped with an inspection win-
dow to see the serviceability indicator of the smoke hood.
   (3) The smoke hood is packaged into a vacuum foil bag (referred as to the foil bag). A cord with a ser-
viceability indicator is featured around the bag. It shows the serviceable condition of the foil bag
       (smoke hood).
The vacuum foil bag is attached to the box by two plastic attachment strips and locking clamps.
   (4) The smoke hood contains (Ref. to Fig. 3)
         - a fire-resistant hood with a breathing bag protection,
         - an inner mask,
         - a breathing bag with a volume-controlled relief outlet valve and a KO2 cartridge with a starter.
The KO2 cartridge is connected to the inner mask by a flexible hose.
   (5) The hood contains
         - a fire-resistant visor with a sound-outlet opening,
         - a neck seal and body belts,
         - a relief valve in the hood lets the air out of the inner of the smoke coat.
   (6) The inner mask consists of:
         - a hard shell with a soft face piece. The face piece has a safety relief valve against suffocation,
         - a sound outlet to speak that contains a voice transmitter and a megaphone connector.
         - The hard shell is connected to the volume-controlled relief outlet valve of the breathing bag by
tube. The openings in the hard shell are to flush the visor with air. The hard shell and inner

The head straps are attached to the hard shell and connected with the hood.
5. Operation
   (1) The OXYCREW is a self contained device that contains a supply of breathable gas.
   (2) This supply of breathable gas is given by a closed circuit of breathe. That has the function to re-
make the expired air and to add with oxygen, to get breathable again.
   (3) The oxygen is made by an exothermic chemical effect. The potassium superoxide (KO2) of the car-
tridge effects with the carbon dioxide (CO2) and the humidity of the expired air.
6. Stowage
OXYCREW normally is stowed within a bracket. Various bracket types are available. The bracket is ei-
ther equipped with two metal bands or a clamping belt.
NOTE: When using a bracket with holding strap, use caution to pass the strap below the
upper handle (Ref. to Fig. 2).
Otherwise the handle could be damaged.
                                                                                                     Page 4

NOTE: Do this test only if the serviceability indicator of the smoke hoods vacuum
foil bag (Referred to as the foil bag) is damaged or broken.
The bag must be weighed together with the serviceability indicator and its
                               cord.
(a) Remove the foil bag from the box assy as specified in -DISASSEMBLY-.
                 (c) Put the foil bag together with the damaged/broken serviceability indicator on the balance
                     (Ref. to Table 1).
                 (d) Compare the weight shown on the foil bag with the weight indication on the balance. The
value shown on the balance must not more differ than 2,5 g (0.00551 lb).
(e) Replace the OXYCREW if the weight of the foil bag is out of the limit.

OXYGEN EQUIPMENT. THIS CAN CAUSE A DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD.
2. Procedure
          (b) Check that the inspection window is not matt and does not have scratches. Replace the inspec-
              tion window if necessary.
          (c) Check that the seal of the box assy is not damaged. If the seal is damaged open the box assy
and check condition of installed parts.
(d) Check that the top cover moves freely on its hinges.
     (2) Check the date of manufacture shown on the identification plate and compare the service life time of
the oxycrew. If the service life is out of limit replace the oxycrew.
     (3) Visually check the serviceability indicator of the foil bag through the inspection window. If the ser-
viceability indicator is damaged, open the box assy, remove the foil bag (Ref. to DISASSEMBLY)
and continue as specified in step 4.
                                                                                                       Page 501

NOTE: A damage of the foil bag causes an increase of weight, because of humidity has
                   gone into it.
    (a) Check serviceable indicator of the foil bag for damage. Do a weight test if the serviceable indi-
        cator is damaged.
(Ref. to TESTING AND FAULT ISOLATION).
If the weight is out of limit and a life extension no more possible, fully replace the OXYCREW.
NOTE: A repair of the foil bag and smoke hood is not possible. Discard the foil
bag together with the smoke hood as specified in REPAIR
(5) Check of the Identification Plate/Markings
(a) Check that the identification plate and markings of the box assy and the foil bag are to read.

the IPL. The introduction further contains a list of abbreviations used in the detailed parts list as well as a
list of manufacturer codes together with manufacturer names and addresses.
     B. Numerical Index
This section contains a listing of part numbers of all items listed in the detailed parts list in alphanumeri-
cal sequence with cross-reference to respective Fig. / Item Nos. as well as units per assy. The order of
precedence in beginning the part number arrangement at the extreme left-hand (first) position is as fol-
     lows:
     - letters A through Z (except 'O' to be considered as zero)
     - numerals 0 to 9
     - for subsequent rows, the order is a dash
     - letters A through Z (except 'O' to be considered as zero)
     - numerals 0 to 9
The indenture system used in the Detailed Parts List shows the relationship of parts and
assemblies to next higher assemblies as follows:
(a) Find the part number in the numerical index. Note figure and item number.
(c) Locate the part on illustration and in the parts list by item number.
