School of Industrial Technology 1
Introduction
In order to continue second year college from the automotive engineering
technology program, students must complete two hundred and forty hours of work
experience, either inside or outside of the university. For them to be able to complete
their first year here at ASCOT in the Department of Industrial Technology, students must
fulfill the specified hours.
Each student's knowledge and skill development in the area of being an
automotive learner is the goal of this work immersion. They will be better able to adjust
to the workplace thanks to this practicum.
Having this immersion will enhance and build the student's knowledge and skills
as to what the real world of the automotive industry is about because it is in line with the
automotive course, work fields such as mechanic, licensed driver, and engine and car
accessories that the students may land as their job in the future.
Every first-year automotive student is required to participate in the work
immersion, which is held close to Aurora State College of Technology. In order to
improve their competence, students will gain exposure to and familiarity with the
workplace environment pertaining to their area of expertise through this.
Students will be able to enrich their good work habits, attitudes, and respect for
work, and it will prepare them to meet the needs and challenges of an employment as
soon as possible. Students will not only gain pertinent and practical industrial skills, but
they will also be even more appreciative of the importance and application of the
principles and theories taught in school.
School of Industrial Technology 2
Orientation
Being able to get acquainted with the supervisors helps students immensely
since it puts them at ease when it comes to beginning the work immersion. While
entering the workforce entails considerably greater responsibility for the students, it also
opens up a world of opportunities that may be advantageous to all automotive
engineering technology students.
In order to ensure that the rules and regulations are clear and that the students
are aware of each work rule so they know what to expect in doing this or something they
are not required to do, the orientation was held prior to the work immersion. It is needed
for us to be clear and we will be able to know what needs to avoid and needs to be done
during the work immersion since this is a new beginning to us.
We students will benefit greatly from the orientation since we will be prepared
and knowledgeable about our work immersion. once I've already indicated, without this
orientation, we won't be able to comprehend the difficulties we can encounter once we
begin our work immersion.
Both during the orientation and on a daily basis, we learned what to do next.
Which supervisors will lead us through the work immersion process, and what are their
roles. This orientation serves as a guide for performing tasks properly in the field.
The work immersion does look extremely exciting since everyone will be more
motivated to complete many chores and will work together to complete the jobs that
each and every one of us will be performing on the work force of the immersion.
School of Industrial Technology 3
Insight Gain
Students participating in the work immersion program received assistance in
thinking creatively and innovating, as well as in being proactive in completing
assignments and other activities that were assigned to them. Each student was able to
express themselves in the work immersion and was free to do whatever they pleased as
long as they were responsible for the institution's operations and knew what skills were
needed.
One of the insights that I have gain from the work immersion is that it has given
me a lot of new perspectives. Many positive learning outcomes enable me as a student
to increase my productivity and collaboration abilities in addition to my knowledge and
skills.
We completed many jobs in this work immersion with tenacity and punctuality
because doing so will enable us to complete the work immersion as quickly and
painlessly as feasible. There are numerous things that come to mind, including the
professionalism I've developed via the job immersion and the fact that when I first
started, I felt like I could rely on myself.
On the other hand, I've examined how we were able to provide fresh concepts
and solutions that can enhance the organization's operations while also managing to
conduct ourselves in a professional manner at all times throughout the practicum. In
addition to imparting knowledge and skills, the work immersion offers us the chance to
consider our own scope's assumptions, attitudes, and knowledge base in order to
become more culturally competent and constant all throughout the whole work
immersion process.
School of Industrial Technology 4
Knowledge Skills
My knowledge-based contributions to group projects with my fellow students
have improved my ability to explore my own self-understanding, as well as my maturity,
independence, and self-confidence. Since we could learn not only how to work on
automobile engines and accessories, but also how to drive a car on our own, a lot of
information has been processed in my head. Remember that driving a manual car is
more trickier than one with an automated transmission. But we were able to complete
honing our driving techniques, and that is something I will always remember.
Everyone should learn how to manage their time effectively when performing
work-related duties, and for my part, I was able to stay productive and complete each
activity quickly. Being immersed in the work industry within the university has also
helped me adapt the collaboration that forced me to work with my other students as well
as the initiative in completing such workload. One skill I learned is work decorum, but it
was more importantly my communication and interpersonal skills that served me well
during the work immersion. It helped me realized that I need to check my own work
behavior.
The experience I had throughout the immersion is the best knowledge I could
impart. Knowledge is the best experience, as they once said in a statement. Being
immersed with a variety of students to learn the course material helped me hone my
familiarity with the workplace, and we were able to simulate employment just like it would
be in the real world.
School of Industrial Technology 5
Problem Encountered
I've just had one issue during the work immersion, and that is low self-esteem.
The problem was that I felt completely unprepared for what to do throughout the job
immersion. When it comes to interacting with my fellow pupils, things spiral out of
control. The nervous feeling when it comes to driving the car made me feel even more
anxious.
Second, I have a problem when it comes to doing the fences as well as with
regards to cleaning the area because we may not be able to clean all the areas within
the vicinity of our school department since that we are insufficient in cleaning materials,
example it could be the trash bag we need to use, knifes for cutting bamboos for fences.
I guess there have been instances when I've felt the urge to be completely
hidden from view. With all the things we have to complete each day, I was a little
apprehensive and stressed. For me, each day is like a fresh start. I am aware that
experience is something you get over time, and the more you do anything, the more you
learn. But circumstances simply arise, and sometimes I have no control over them.
Out of all the good and bad, work immersion has given me a lot of knowledge
and practical skills, and it has improved my communication skills with others and within
myself. As a result, even though I had some difficulties during the aforementioned work
immersion, I was able to get through them by deciding on the best course of action and
solution.
School of Industrial Technology 6
Solutions
I came to the conclusion that, despite the difficulties I had during the job
immersion; there was still a way out. As a first-year student, my initial thought for a
remedy was to gauge my own potential. Measuring and being aware of my limitations
are the only ways to ensure a work is successfully done.
I was able to pick up the aspect of being more resourceful when it comes to the
lack of cleaning tools as well as being more inventive. It made me realize as well that
even though I am nervous in driving or running a car, I feel the need to be more brave
since that it is needed in being an automotive student.
As a prospective worker, it has occurred to me to give each assignment my
whole attention and to work diligently so that the reward for my efforts would be realized
at the conclusion. The persistence and timeliness are most important since they enable
us to complete our workloads in a highly effective manner. Giving all the perseverance
and hardwork will make your task the quality that it takes to be. I understand that it
maybe hard for us some times but it is just a challenge for us to strive for more.
Another option is to always prioritize professionalism and work ethic in all I do.
Good grades and intelligence are always plusses, but attitude is more important than
anything else. I personally assisted with this solution during the work immersion, and it
greatly benefited me. Being professional with your coworkers and supervisor can have a
significant impact on how you act and behave with your boss, your instructors, and other
professionals during the course of your career.
School of Industrial Technology 7
Suggestion/ Recommendations
While I just have a few recommendations, some of my classmates that I've heard
of have several about the facilities and other things. One of them is in relation to the
work immersion; supervisors frequently inquire about the daily satisfaction ratings of
each student while they are working on assignments so they will know what to anticipate
and what to assign another task the following day after the rating meeting.
In order for everyone to be aware of the circumstances they are in during the
work immersion, I would also want to advise that the students speak to the supervisor on
a peer-to-peer basis. We wouldn't be able to tell if someone is still motivated to complete
chores like these without knowing their situation. The student-instructor relationship
would benefit greatly from having this as a feasible standard, and there would be a
noticeable change afterwards.
I suggest assigning tasks that are more pertinent to the course. I think it's a great
idea that the supervisors taught us how to drive during our first year at Industrial
Technology, and I applaud them for it. I would advise them to provide additional practice
skills related to studying automotive, which is the true subject. I am aware that it will be
covered in class over the years leading up to our graduation, but I feel that we need
more than that—we need an actual as soon as possible—in order to prepare for what
lies ahead.
This narrative report and this section, in my opinion, provide an excellent chance
for me to express my opinions about suggesting a reputable school that provides ideas
and develops students' competence during the immersion or practicum.
