Course Overview
Technology and livelihood Education, is critical to becoming a productive member of today’s
workforce. Choosing a career path and then learning the technology and livelihood skills associated with
that field or industry can be an excellent way to improve one’s chances of success. In addition,
Technology and Livelihood Education encompasses the field of Home Economics (H.E.); Industrial Arts
(IA); Agri-Fishery Arts (AFA); and Information, Communication. and Technology (ICT). The 24 TLE
courses can be categorized under any of these fields.
Ways and these things can help them in life in the near future. This curriculum is an exploratory
course in cookery, which leads to National Certificate Level II (NCT II). It covers five common
competencies that a grade 7 Technology and Livelihood Education (TLE) student ought to possess,
namely; 1) Knowledge of the use of tools, equipment, and paraphernalia; 2) maintenance of tools,
equipment and paraphernalia; 3) performance of mensuration and calculation; 4) the practice of
Occupational Health and Safety Procedures (OHSP). The preliminaries of this explanatory course include
the following; 1) Discussion of the relevance of the course; 2) explanation of key concepts relative to the
course, and 3) exploration of career opportunities.

Produce Embroidered Article
The ornamentation of textiles and other materials with needlework for personal

The handicraft industry allows you to create a lot of useful art using different kinds of materials
and mediums. It is a venue wherein you can exercise your creativity and innovativeness that you can
share and be used to improve daily life. Most beautiful and extravagant handicrafts are made from
materials that are rare and striking in its own right. However, high quality handicraft products can also be
made from materials that are commonly found in our surroundings. This handicraft process involves the
practice of recycling. In this lesson you will learn what is recycling and its importance in our environment
and society and also how to create wonderful handicrafts with the use of recyclable materials that are at
par with the ones made with expensive ones.
FIRM UP
Learn about It!
Creating a livelihood for yourself can be done in a lot of ways. One is to learn skills
that you can use to get employed or you may use those skills to start a business for
yourself. The handicraft industry can provide you with such an opportunity. You just
need the skills and creativity to make the products and the perseverance to continue
innovating yourself. In this lesson, you will know how to create sellable handicraft products
from recyclable materials.
What is Recycling?
The increasing volume of waste that is being produced every single day has been a long-
time problem not just in the country but all over the world. The unmanageable waste
that we currently handle has created severe side effects in the environment and our
health as well. Many programs and advocacies have been pursued in order to address
these problems. The most common technique reintroduced to us continuously is
recycling.
TYPES OF RECYVLING
Recycling can be done in different ways. It depends on the process you will use in
order to transform your garbage.
Internal Recycling
Internal recycling engages the use of byproducts of a manufacturing process. It is done
within the company’s organization and does not involve individuals not connected to the
operations of the manufacturer.
An example would be the metal industry, specifically copper production, wherein copper
pieces are produced during the manufacturing. These pieces are melted again and recast to
make products. This practice is common in other industries as well.
External Recycling
External recycling is the process of salvaging a product that has been worn out due
to constant use. This process is often observed by households. Recyclable materials such as
old newspapers and bottle cans are transformed into different products that serve different use
and purpose.
An example would be using old newspapers and magazines to make products such
as bags, wallets, vases, and container boxes as decorations or even recycling it to make
handmade paper.

Creating a Recycled Project
There are a lot of products that you can make on your own using recycled materials. In
this lesson, we will be making three (3) recycled articles from three (3) common trash
in our household: paper, plastic, and metal or tin cans.
1. Paper beads
Old newspapers and magazines can be used to make beads. You can create
various sizes depending on the type of handicraft you will be making afterward and
the type of bead you will be using. For this project, we will make a round paper
bead.

GRASP NARRATIVE: Pollution is the most serious environmental problem in the world, not
just in the Philippines. One of the most major concerns in the Philippines is water pollution,
that is caused by an escalating amount of waste water dumped largely untreated. As an
environmental specialist you are tasked to lead the youth in promoting environmental
awareness by teaching the youth to engage in recycling activities. You must demonstrate how
to transform the Soda can, newspaper / magazines and plastic bottles in to something useful
then make a simple exhibit of your recycled articles through a video vlog.

1. You need to place the gift box on the wrapping paper and measure two-thirds of the
box height to cover the flap.
2. Roll the box over the paper to ensure the box will be covered and allow 5 cm for
the overlap.
3. Measure with a steel rule the other side of the box and lightly draw a cutting line with a
pencil.
4. Carefully cut out the paper to the correct size. Try to cut in long, even strokes to
avoid tearing the paper.
Wrapping Boxes
1. Place the box in the center of the wrapping paper and make sure that the side flaps are
the same size. Fold the left edge over ½ inch. Fold the right flap over the gift box
and secure it halfway across the top with tape.
2. Apply double-sided adhesive tape on the left flap, then pull the paper to overlap, peel
off the tape, and press down on top.
3. On one end, fold down the top flap and secure it to the box. Smooth the paper along
the sides with two fingers and fold the side flaps around to cross over, leaving one flap
fold up.
4. Apply the edges of the triangular flap with double-adhesive tape, peel the backing off
and press firmly against the side.
Simple Bow
1. Pass the ribbon under the gift so that you have two ends of equal length. Make sure to
use a length of a ribbon that can be wrapped around the box twice. Tie the two ends
together at the top.
2. Knot the tied ends to hold the ribbon in place.
3. Create two loops and tie together to make a simple bow.
4. Place the ribbon ends together and cut them at an angle at the same place.
1. Get a length of a ribbon that can be wrapped around the box twice. You need to place
the box on top of the ribbon. The length of the ribbon to the right of the box should be
one-quarter of the length of the entire ribbon. Place the left section over the right.
2. Cross the ribbon at the center of the box, then hold the ribbon vertically.
3. Wrap the long ribbon end around the bottom, and then over the top of the box.
4. Insert the long ribbon end through the bottom left corner of the center twist, and then
take the end up through the right corner.
5. Create a simple bow.
6. Clip the ends of the ribbon with a diagonal or inverted V cut.
