THE CRYING STONE
Long ago, on a hill far from the village, in Kalimantan, there lived Mak Dasah and her daughter
named Jelita. Jelita is a very beautiful child, just like her name. Mak Dasah's job is to find firewood in
the forest and then sell it in the village. But her daughter Jelita, was very lazy and never helped her
mother. Her only job is to dress up every day. And all of her request must be obeyed. Every time she
asked her mother for something, it had to be granted, regardless of what her mother said.
*Mak Dasah sweeps the floor, but her daughter just watches her mom.
Mak Dasah: “Jelita, can you help your mother to sweep the floor, please?”
Jelita: “Ew, no! Are you going to break my pretty fingers with all that stupid stuff?”
Yeah, she loved her daughter so much and that’s why she never forced her daughter to did all the
stuff. And one day, when Mak Dasah went home after sell the firewood..
Jelita: "Mom, today you have to buy me a new cloth, beautiful cloth.”
Mak Dasah: "Well, you already have a lot of clothes.”
Jelita: "Alaaaahhh, don't talk too much, I have a lot of clothes, but they're out of date, I want a new
model!"
Mak Dasah: "But, I don't have enough money to buy you a new cloth."
Jelita: "What is this?"
*Jelita takes her mother’s money from her mother’s hand.
Mak Dasah: “Hey! Give it back!”
Jelita: “I’ll give it to you, if you want to give me a new cloth.”
Mak Dasah: “OK, i’ll buy you a new cloth, let’s go to the market”
Mak Dasah and Jelita went to the market. But the village market is far away, so they have to walk to
get there. No one knew that the two women walking were mother and daughter. When they started to
enter the village, the village people looked at them. They were so fascinated by the girl's beauty.
However, when they saw the person walking behind the girl, the situation was really contrasting.
Penduduk (Faiz): "It's very strange... the girl's face is very beautiful, and her clothes as pretty as her
face, but the woman behind her is dressed in tattered and patched clothes.”
Penduduk (Rafie): "Yeah, why is that woman walking behind the girl? Even though her face is very
similar to the girl, it's impossible for the old woman to be her servant.”
Penduduk (Faiz): "Mate, what if that woman is actually the assistant who is guarding the girl."
Penduduk (Rafie): “I don’t think so. But, i think she’s her mother. Nevermind.”
Firdaus: "Hi, pretty girl. Is the one walking behind you, your mother?"
Jelita (Aghniya): "No, she is my servant!"
Then, they continued their journey. Not far away, a young man approached and asked the girl again.
Danish: "Hi, pretty girl, what's your name?"
Jelita: "My name is Jelita...!"
Danish: "Is the one walking behind you, your mother?"
Jelita: "No, no!" answered the girl, raising her head. "She is my slave!"
Danish: “Oh that’s good, i thought she was your mother. Haha, fool me.”
Mak Dasah: "Hey, you really went too far, you were disobedient and repeatedly called me your slave.
Even though I was the one who cared and raised you. How dare you do something like that, bruh.”
Jelita: "Mother... why are you angry... believe me, this is just that charade. Later, after coming home
from the market, you will buy new and beautiful clothes. If I meet a handsome young man, i’ll
recognize you as my mother."
Mak Dasah: "The heck?! You must acknowledge me as your mother, not your slave!"
Jelita: "Later Mom, when you've bought me new clothes!"
Mak Dasah: " In the name of God, i curse you to become a frog, i mean stone.”
Jelita: “What you gonna do, Mom? Cry? Hahahahah, nice jokes dude.”
Jelita: "Oh, Mother. Mother forgive me, forgive your daughter. Mother...... mother...... forgive your
child....."
By the power of God Almighty, the disobedient girl's body slowly turned into stone. change starts
from feet. When the change had reached half of her body, the girl cried and begged her mother for
forgiveness. The girl continued to wail and cry begging her mother. However, it was too late. The
girl's entire body finally turned into stone. Even though turned into stone, but people could see that
her eyes were still shedding tears, as if she was crying. Therefore, the stone that came from the girl
who was cursed by her mother was called "Crying Stone".
So guys, don’t be disobedient to your parents, if you don’t want to be a stone. The moral of the story
is don’t be disobedient to your parents and be careful of your words, if you don’t want to regret all of
the things you do. In the name of class 8B, thankyou for watching, see ya!
