Owl Hat

Cables form adorable owls on this hat. Buttons are sewn on for eyes. SIZES Fits a 19-21 inch head. To make larger or smaller increase or decrease by 10. MATERIALS 125 yards worsted weight wool US 8 (5 mm) circular needle US 9 (5.5 mm) circular needle (or size required to get gauge) Cable needle 18 (3/8) buttons for eyes (you can use less if you dont want eyes o all the owls) Tapestry needle Sewing needle Sewing thread GAUGE 17 st/21 rows = 4 inches STITch GUIdE cF4: Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in front of work, K2 from left needle, K2 from cable needle. cB4: Slip next 2 sts onto cable needle and hold in back of work, K2 from left needle, K2 from cable needle.

Using smaller needle, Cast on 90, join to knit in the round Work in K1P1 ribbing for 1 1/2 inches. Switch to larger needles & knit 3 rows. OwL cABLE SEcTIOn Use written direction or follow the chart for the next 19 rounds. Round 1: Purl across Round 2-3: (p2, k8)* repeat around Round 4: (p2, CB4, CF4)* repeat around Round 5-11: repeat round 2 Round 12: repeat round 4 Round 13: repeat round 2 Round 14-15: (p2, k1, p2, k2, p2, k1)* repeat around Round 16-17: repeat round 2 Round 18: repeat round 4 Round 19: repeat round 2 Round 20*: Work in stockinette stitch (knit every round) until* work measures 6 1/2 inches including ribbing or to desired length.

dEcREASE Round 21: (K8, k2tog)* repeat around Round 22: (K7, k2tog)* repeat around Round 23: (K6, k2tog)* repeat around Round 24: (K5, k2tog)* repeat around Round 25: (K4, k2tog)* repeat around Round 26: (K3, k2tog)* repeat around Round 27: (K2, k2tog)* repeat around Round 28: (K1, k2tog)* repeat around Round 29-end: Continue (K1, k2tog) until 8 sts remain. Break yarn, thread yarn needle with yarn end and thread though remaining stitches pulling tight. Secure. Weave in ends. Using thread sew buttons on for owls eyes.
