CHAPTER 2: OVERVIEW OF THE COMMUNITY
• About the Community/Village/Habitation including historical profile of the
community/habitation, community diversity, traditions, ethics and values.
• Brief note on Socio-Economic conditions of the Community/Habitation.

“SOIL PROTECTION” is our topic for the community service project. The main aim to choose
this top“ic was, since we come across many agricultural lands in india and in india agriculture is
called as the backbone of india. No other country on this planet grows as india does. here
agriculture is main sourse of income. In order to grow good crops and for effective production of
crop soil plays a important role and it is the main objective.so we thought this would be a effective
topic so we wanted do our roject on this soil protection. As a part of this project we have decided to
visit the place and get information from the people and provide know information to the people
about soil protection.Soil conservation is a "combination" of practices used to protect the soil from
degradation.First and soil conservation involves treating the soil as a living ecosystem, and recognizing that
all the organisms that make the soil their home, play important roles in producing a fertile
healthyenvironment. They are responsible for breaking down organic matter, releasing nutrients,
and opening upspaces for the circulation of air and water.Because most organisms in the soil depend on
dead plant and animal matter for their food and energy, soil conservation requires that organic matter be
returned to the soil on a continual basis. Organic matter is what provides good soil structure and water
holding capacity, promotes water infiltration, and protects the soil fromerosion and compaction.

In addition to preserving soil life and organic matter, the other principles of soilconservation are :

 Manage surface runoff,

 Protect bare exposed soil surfaces, and highly susceptible sites (e.g. steepslopes)

 Protect downstream watercourses from sedimentation and pollution.

Techniques for improved soil conservation include crop rotation, cover crops, conservation tillage .

Code 330defines standard methods recommended by the U.S. Natural Resources Conservation
Service.
CHAPTER 3: COMMUNITY SERVICE PART
Description of the Activities undertaken in the Community during the Community
Service Project. This part could end by reflecting on what kind of values, life skills, and
technical skills the student acquired.

The activities which we done in our community are:

Before visiting the field we met our guide, she explained how to do the project and she suggested us a
lot. After meeting our guide we went to our community (Agricultural Field). There we a got more
information about what the farmers do in their field. He explained us everything what they do. We raised
some questions which we prepared before visiting that place. He cleared all our doubts which we asked.
We also researched some information about agriculture in internet. Some of them are given below:
In India agriculture is the art and science of cultivating the soil, growing crops and raising live stock. It
includes the preparation of plant and animal products for people to use and their distribution to markets.
Agriculture provides most of the world’s food and fabrics. Agriculture is considered as a primary
livelihood for most of the population, which can never be underestimated. Agriculture has existed for
thousands of years in our country and has developed with new technologies and equipment that replaced
traditional farming methods. In India, few farmers use the traditional farming methods because they lack
the resources to use the modern techniques. Agriculture is the only sector that contributes to itself and
other country sectors. India is the second largest wheat, rice, cotton, fruits, vegetables and tea producer.
It is also a global power house of agriculture production. It is the world’s largest producer of spices,
milk, rice, wheat and cotton. Agriculture is the Indian economy’s most important sector, and India’s
farm sector is the largest industry. Agriculture is basically divided into categories based on the type of
crop planted, the scale of cultivation, the intensity of cultivation, the level of mechanization, livestock
combinations, and how farm produce is dispersed. The farmer told about the different types of
Agriculture.

We ourselves discussed about what we learnt before days. We interacted with farmers and workers. We
also learnt small works which we can do in our daily life. We know about the importance of agriculture
in our nation. We identified the problems which are commonly faced by the farmers in our surroundings.
We learnt the climatical changes plays a major role in agricultural sector. We Known how soil is tested
before doing plantation. By doing this project we learnt the value of hard work and also speaking skills
plays a major role in everyone’s life and we learnt how to present the project and we also learnt how to
manage the things in real life situations.

Where actually we need to do this finally decided certain places. Our project is to protect soil ,

Because we see now a days the environment is polluting and people are suffering from diseases

Due to pollution .So many people are dying due to pollution , so inorganic farming also causes some

Diseases. So farmers need to protect soil in order to protect the inorganic farming. On this basis we are

Doing this project to make aware of people on how the farming is going on now a days and be

Objective of the Activity Done: About agriculture

Detailed Report: Importance of agriculture

Agriculture is the practice of cultivating plants and livestock in order to provide facilities the human

beings. In the rise of the sedentary human lifestyle agriculture was the key development.

The cultivation of plant and food grains began years ago in order to provide food to the city population.

Agriculture is the main need for the people to live in the society. Agriculture is the main source of

livelihood, it provides a source for the people to earn. Most of the population in the rural areas is

dependent on agriculture as their main source of income.

Agriculture contributes significantly to a country’s GDP that is the Gross Domestic Production of a

country. By the passing of time, there are a number of revolutions that take place in order to

improve agriculture throughout the world or a country.

If we talk about agriculture, India has witnessed a number of revolutions, that is, the green

revolution, yellow revolution, blue revolution, agriculture. Agriculture affects the biodiversity of a

country depending upon agricultural activities.

The major agricultural products can be widely grouped into categories of food grains, fibers and raw
materials.
Foodgrains included the grains or cereals that have been used for eating. Fiber crops are comple-

tely Commercial, they can not be eaten and are completely grown for making money. Raw mater-

ials are that category of crops that are completely grown for use as raw materials in industries in

order to prepare other items.

WEEKLY REPORT
WEEK-5(From Dt:04/06/2023 to Dt:10/06/2023)

Objective of the Activity Done: Types of soils and pesticides

Detailed Report: Detailed information about soils

When it comes to crop production, considering the types of soil is essential. Six main soil types are

typically distinguished in Agriculture. Each of them has specific physical and chemical properties.

While some types of soils are more productive and accommodating, utilizing amendments suitable for

each type can still benefit growers. Soil is the most important aspect for Agriculture. India is a land of

vast dimensions with different conditions of geology climate and vegetation. Here, you can gee

different types of soil cultivation. Therefore, India has a large diversity of soil groups which includes

different types of soil. All the soils are markedly different from each other. Every farmer should be

aware of the soil’s types for the best extensions of crops. There are many types of soils in India but

some farmers are unknown about it. Soil is the foundation of Agriculture. It is the loose surface that

covers most of the Agricultural land. This material is a mixture of inorganic particles and organic matter.

Soil provides structural support to plants used in farming. The soil contains minerals, gases, liquids and

organisms that together support the crop. Each soil type has specific strengths and weaknesses for

Agricultural production. For the betterment of Agriculture, many factors are available, and soil is one of

them. Soil is essential part of successful farming and the original source of nutrients used in crop grow.

Healthy soil produces the most nutritious and most abundant food supply.pesticides are used in different

Crops for example gromor ,urea, nitrogen etc.

WEEKLY REPORT
WEEK-6(From Dt:11/06/2023 to Dt:17/06/2023)

Objective of the Activity Done: Machinery for agriculture

Detailed Report: Detailed information about machinery

What is a tractor farm equipment:

The most common use of the term "tractor" is for the vehicles used on farms.

The farm tractor is used for pulling or pushing agricultural machinery or trailers, for plowing,

tilling, disking, harrowing, planting, and similar tasks.

What is a tiller in agriculture:

Tillers are branches that develop from the leaf axils at each un elongated node of the main shoot

or from other tillers during vegetative growth, growing independently by means of its own

Adventitious roots. Tillering is a two-stage process the formation of axillary buds at each leaf.

What is the use of rotary tiller:

Rotary Tillers are machines used for both primary and secondary Tillage for cultivating the soil.

They use a series of blades that eliminate weeds, relieve compaction, as it mixes and levels the

soil. This agricultural equipment is very powerful and is used for seedbed preparation.

What are the different types of sprayers used in agriculture:

There are ten common sprayer types used in agriculture spraying applications with various

ranges for fluid rates, pressure psi, distance/coverage potentials, capacity, and nozzle

The sprayer types are: backpack, spot, ATV, UTV, tow behind, truck bed, 3 point hitch, boom, and mist.

WEEK-7(From Dt:18/06/2023 to Dt:24/06/2023)

Objective of the Activity Done: Modern Agriculture

Detailed Report: In detail about modern Agriculture

We discussed about Agricultural issues faced by farmers. We find out solution for water issues and the

remaining issues. We find a new way to prove agriculture in our surroundings. Agriculture drones are

often unmanned aerial vehicles used to monitor and manage the growth of crops, land area, and overall

Agricultural aspects. Moreover, these drones have special cameras, advanced sensors, and automated

data-capturing capabilities that can help farmers record any data related to crop growth, weather

conditions, and more. We discussed with farmers about drones which can be used for agricultural

purposes. We gave many suggestions to the farmers to resolve their issues. Agriculture is the main

source of national income for most developing countries. Agriculture products like sugar, tea, rice,

spices, tobacco, coffee, etc, constitute the major items of exports of countries that rely on agriculture.

The main source of raw materials to major industries such as cotton and jute fabric, sugar, tobacco,

edible as well as non-edible oils is Agriculture. It is a need to educate a farmer to make him use Modern

Agriculture Technology that can make farming easier and affordable too. Today more farm equipment

is available with smart sensors that can read everything from crop health to essential nitrogen levels in

the water. The development of self-driving cars is also accelerating on the farm. There are robots to

choose lettuce and oranges, and cut grapes. These robots are often guided by GPS tracking so they can

easily navigate the crops. Modern agriculture Technology makes farming easier and smarter.

WEEKLY REPORT
WEEK-8(From Dt:25/06/2023 to Dt:01/07/2023)

Objective of the Activity Done: Final Week Report

Detailed Report: Environmental impact of Agriculture

The environmental impact of Agriculture is the effect that different farming practices have on the

ecosystems. The impact of Agriculture varies widely based on practices employed by farmers and by the

scale of practice. Agriculture is vital to the global food supply, but it also significantly impacts the

environment. On the positive side, Agriculture provides a major source of employment and contributes

to economic growth. It also helps to conserve natural resources by using less land to produce more food.

On the negative side, Agriculture can lead to soil erosion and water pollution. It can also contribute to

climate change by releasing green house gases into the atmosphere. Agriculture is a driving force for the

deforestation globally, but especially in some countries like Brazil, Indonesia, Malta, and The United

Kingdom. The soils in these countries may be enriched chemically to allow crops to grow for longer.

This means that tropical soils, which are already poorer in nutrients than temperate soils, which may

take longer to regenerate. Soil loses quality through compaction by trampling and through the use of the

heavy machinery. Moreover, mono-crops reduce overall soil nutrients and biodiversity and lead to the

further loose of soil fertility. Carbon dioxide is the most significant amount of emissions that contributes

to global warming. Agriculture puts significant pressure on fresh water and forest resources, especially

in the tropics. By doing this project we not only learned technical knowledge but also we learned about

team work, being sociable, interacting with everyone and many more.
