   or presenting the new
   lesson
C. Establishing a purpose for
   the lesson
D. Presenting Regular maintenance of equipment is an important and necessary activity.
examples/instances of the The term ‘maintenance’ covers many activities, including inspection,
new lesson testing, measurement, replacement and adjustment, and is carried out in
all sectors and workplaces. It has a vital role to play in reducing the risk
associated with some workplace hazards and providing safer and healthier
                                working conditions.
Insufficient or inadequate maintenance can cause serious (and potentially
deadly) accidents or health problems. PUWER (the Provision and Use of
Work Equipment Regulations 1998) states that “all work equipment be
maintained in an efficient state, in efficient order and in good repair.”
If you take care of your tools, they will return the favor. Proper care and
routine maintenance of your hand tools and power tools makes any home
improvement or repair project easier, safer and more successful. Proper
tool care also saves you money because the better they’re cared for, the
                                longer they’ll last.
                                Learning Competency:
                                1. check the condition of the tools and equipment;
                                2. perform basic preventive maintenance; and
                                3. store tools and equipment.
Functional tools and equipment are those that are in good condition and
                                can
                                perform its regular functions.
Non-functional tools and equipment are those that are not able to perform
their regular function because of impaired and damage part. Examples of
these are hammer with a broken handle, screwdriver with broken handle,
long nose pliers with damaged jaw and electrical equipment with damage.
Tools and equipment that are in good condition and damaged or defective
must be properly labelled. This would help us to easily identify the tools
and equipment that can be still used, repaired or disposed.
   E. Discussing new concepts Read the story
      and practicing new skills #1
One morning, Dino asks his father Lino to help him in doing his project in
making extension cord. “Father do you know how to make an extension
cord?” Dino asked. “Yes my son”, Lino said. “Father, can you help me to
make one, this is my project in my subject EIM” Dino said. “Okay son, I will
teach and guide you, go to the backyard and ready the things that we will
use” father said. Dino smiles and runs faster outside their house to prepare
the materials and tools to be used in doing his project. While working, Dino
asks his father “why I cannot cut the electrical wires using the Diagonal
pliers?” Father Lino get the pliers and inspects it and he found out that the
jaw of the Diagonal pliers is broken.
