PAT EXAMINATION
1. Please follow PAT instructions carefully. Learners must know exactly
which pattern each of them is making at least three weeks before
practical exams.
2. Practical examination must be fit into AND indicated on the examination
timetable of the school.
3. ALL learners must work individually, and each must MAKE an item,
DECORATE it, FINISH it off AND ATTACH a LABEL to the item. The label
can be finished before the practical examination
The label needs to be small loose label that can be attached t the item, it need
to be creative, the right size for the item and attached to the item/product.
The label must contain the following :

 Type of wool (Charity double knit)
 Care instruction (Hand wash only)
4. FIRST SESSION MUST BE CONDUCTED UNDER EXAM
CONDITIONS.
5. SESSION 1
The THREE hours must be done under examination conditions during the
September Examination. Pre-packed “Kit/” need to be prepared that will
be distributed by the invigilator, like question papers.
Package content: (learners can pre-pack it themselves and write their names)
 Bantex/envelope/paper envelope made of double page stapled together.
 Pattern (that the child decided on)
 TWO small balls of wool (2 colours) balls large enough for the article.
(one colour usually smaller than 2nd colour)
 Knitting needles/crochet hook (children put in their own)
 Ruler/paper with measurements e.g., mark measurements needed on pattern
 Label finished label could be included as well.

AFTER 1st SESSION – (before 2nd sessions where kids come in groups to finish the item)
Teacher marks the first part of the item (as it is easier to evaluate it when it has
not been sewn up yet). Mark all marked with (*) on marksheet. The remainder
of assessment is marked after the product is completed.
2nd SESSIONS
Teacher schedules days/times with the learners where they will complete
the marked unfinished article in order to complete, finalise and decorate. This
means
in the second session learners should be given enough time to complete their
product - NO unfinished products should be accepted as sellability evaluated.
