To Make Up
Where possible use tail from “cast on” or “cast off” edges
to sew up seams.
Tie off or weave in any loose ends as you go.
After sewing up bury any loose ends in the body etc.
Head
Starting at the snout, sew about 2 inches of edge seams
together, using the cast off tail and mattress stitch.
Embroider the nose and mouth using a length of Yarn B.
Using the cast on tail, thread yarn through cast on stitches
at back of head, gather up tightly and sew remainder of
edge seam together, leaving a big enough gap in the
centre to push stuffing through.
Stuff and close gap.
Embroider eyes.
Ears
Sew the back edges of ear together using mattress stitch
and the cast off end. Sew in position using whipstitch.
Body
Embroider the line detail in the centre of each petal using
backstitch and Yarn D. (see main photo on front of
pattern)
Starting from the bottom, sew up back edges of body
using mattress stitch. Leave an opening at the neck big
enough to push stuffing through.
Sew up base of body, making sure back seam is central
to the back of the body.
Stuff and close neck seam, bury loose ends in body.
Foot/leg
Using whipstitch, sew together the cast off edges at top
of foot.
Sew bottom edges of foot together, matching stripes.
Stuff foot.
Sew leg edges together using mattress stitch, making sure
stripes line up, stuffing the legs as you go.
Sew legs in place on body.
Arms
Pull yarn through cast on stitches at start of hand and
draw up.
Sew side edges together using mattress stitch, making
sure stripes line up. Leave tapered edges open and stuff
arm firmly.
Sew tapered edges of arms to body, making sure stripes
line up.
Sew head to top of body at the neck.
