Bullying
Bullying, when you heard this word, what are your thoughts? Is it good or bad? In these
research paper we are going to discuss a very difficult topic which is bullying. We will go in depth and
we will analyze what causes bullying, what is bullying, types of bullying and much more. Bullying has
been a controversal topic for many years now and it seem it will never stop. There is different types of
way that people can get bullied that's why it's more complex to stop it now. Anyway I hope you enjoy
this research paper and you learn something new. Let's begin, what is bullying? Bullying is when
someone aggresively uses their "power" to target another individual with repeated, unwanted words or
actions, hurting them physically and/or mentally. Both who are bullied and who bully others may have
serious, lasting problems. Bullying includes action such as making threats, spreading rumors, attacking
someone physically or verbally, and excluding someone from a group on purpose.
There are four types of bullying: verbal bullying, physical bullying, cyber bullying, and
relational/social bullying. Verbal bullying means saying or writing mean things. Physical bullying
means hurting a person's body. Cyber bullying means hurting someone online or virtually.
Relational/social bullying means hurting someone reputation. None of this kinds of bullying should take
over someone's life or damage his/her possession. This types of bullying can result in physical injury,
social and emotional distress, self harm, and even death. It also increases the risk for depression,
anxiety, sleep difficulties, lower academic achievement and dropping out of school. According to
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , 1 to 5 highschool students reported being bullied at school
in the last year. More than 1 to 6 highschool students reported being cyber bullied in the last year. And
according to a report by Bernadette Reyes on "24 oras", a total of 264,668 reported cases of physical
bullying were filed in the school year 2021-2022. There are also 7,758 cases of cyber bullying, 7,800 of
gender based bullying and 17,258 cases of social bullying. As stated their is no doubt that bullying is
problematic epidemic not only in the Philippines but also in the whole world. Usually a bully often
occurs at the school maybe because they often see and socialized with different people, in color, in how
they looks and much more. It make them feel they are different from others (without knowing we are
all different) that's why they hate and discriminate someone who they think a nerd and a selfless
person.
We have always perceived that people who bully are bad, negative or toxic. But have you ever
given a single thoughts about the bullies? Have you ever thought about why people bully, why teens or
kids bully each other, or what could be the reasons behind their negative behavior? As what I have
noticed not all bullies are bad, they just have a trauma in their past that when you're been bullied, you
are pitiful, that's why other's think of becoming a bully is to become famous or powerful. But none of
my statement encouraging anyone or anybody to be a bully. According to "Calmsage.com Published in
Phycology" there are 8 common reasons why people bully. First, they have gone through emotional
trauma, have you ever watched movies named mean girls, moonlight, wonder or after Lucia? If you
have watched these movies, you might be aware of the fact that a hurt people, hurt people also. I am not
directly relating an emotional or personal trauma but you know sometimes it can provide us an insight
into why they actually bully. Sometimes people consciously hurt people because of their own disrupting
life challenges. It is one of their coping skills to manage their own feelings. Second, they are insecure or
jealous. We are all aware of how "social status" plays a major role in our society. This social factor
provides us with the tendency to taunt or bully others. People who bully because someone's social status
definitely show their insecurity or jealousy. It is done to make them look superior. This reason is also
applicable in workplaces. Curiousity to be on the top can lead to bullying as well due to jealousy or
insecurity. Third they have been bullied in past. People who have witnessed bullying or been a victim to
bully can also bully others. They adopt such behavior because it makes them feel protected against
other bullying experiences. Additionaly, sometimes they also try to get ahead of the bullying experiences
so that they can bully others and protect themselves from the striking conversation. This is known as an
unhealthy defense mechanism in psychology. Fourth, they have learned this behavior. Bullying can
also be a learned behavior. For example, if someone has witnessed bullying during childhood or been
the subject of bullying from their close ones, are at high risk of learning this behavior in the scholarly l
