Chapter 2: Hardware Installation

Installation Restrictions
• Install the NCR P1535 POS near an electrical outlet that is easily accessible. Use the
power cord as a power disconnect device.
• Do not permit any object to rest on the power cord. Do not locate the NCR P1535
POS where the power cord can be walked on.
• Use a grounding strap or touch a grounded metal object to discharge any static
electricity from your Body before servicing the NCR P1535 POS.
Warning: This unit contains hazardous voltages and should only be serviced by
qualified service personnel.
Caution: Do not connect or disconnect the transaction printer while the terminal is
on. This can result in system or printer damage.

Installation Notes
Cable Restraint
The P1535 includes a cable management system with cable strap to prevent accidental
disconnects and tampering. The strap is opened, peripheral connections are made, the
strap is closed, and then cables are then routed through the slot in the base.

Footprint
An area of no less than 18” inches square is necessary to properly install a P1535 unit
with MSR and side module. This will accommodate the unit as well as its associated
mounting hardware. For customer display attached, see user guide for specific
dimensions.
2-16 Installation Notes and Restrictions

Power
For tilt stand option, the P1535 has an integrated 19 V, 90 W power supply rated for 110
V and 240 V (Auto-sensing), 50 Hz or 60 Hz located in the base. With the powered USB
24 V option, the power supply is a 24V, 150 W external power brick rated for 110 V and
240 V (auto-sensing), 50Hz or 60Hz. Source power is drawn from a regular AC wall
outlet. The electronics are “universal” – that is, they will function when connected to
standard wall outlets in most countries around the world. For use in locales other than
North America, special wall outlet adapters or cables will be required. For international
configurations of the P1535, typically the country specific power cord is ordered
separately.

Moisture
The P1535 units should not be installed in areas where they might be exposed to direct
water spray. P1535 units are not meant for outdoor installation.

Magnetic Strip Reader (MSR) Cleaning

Periodically, the MSR may need to be cleaned depending on usage. Pre-saturated MSR
cleaning cards can be ordered from NCR (50/box) using part number 1666-K024.
Otherwise, wrap a card with a saturated paper towel of glass cleaner and swipe gently
to clean reader head.

Biometric Cleaning
Periodically, the biometric reader may need to be cleaned depending on usage.
For this optical reader, it is recommended to apply the sticky side of a piece of adhesive
cellophane tape to the window, and then peel it away. This works best and avoids
chemicals which may damage the material. An alternative is to use any type of
household cleaner, such as Formula 409, Fantastic, Windex, etc. Use a soft rag, cotton
swab, or something non-abrasive to gently clean the reader surface. Do not use alcohol-
based cleaners. Always spray the cleaner on the rag or swab first to avoid liquid pooling
around the reader. Remove the excess liquid.
Do not to use chlorine based cleaners, such as Clorox bleach, non-chlorine bleach, or
chlorine based bathroom / mildew cleaners. Also, do not use solvents such as acetone,
MEK, TCE, paint thinner, or turpentine. The power should be removed from the
terminal prior to cleaning.

Hardware Platform Drivers

Platform drivers for the P1535 POS are available on http://www5.ncr.com/support/.
Installation Notes and Restrictions 2-17

Ergonomic Workplace
