Triangle Shawl
Keep the chill off with this triangle shawl, knitted in a
colour-changing yarn for a stunning shaded effect.

Knitting Intermediate

Measurements
Completed shawl measures approximately
116cm/46in across longest straight edge,
81cm/32in across shortest straight edge
and 136cm/53½in across diagonal edge.

Materials
1 x 150g (600m) ball of Wendy Anaphora
(50% cotton, 50% acrylic) in Hockney
(3421)*. Pair of 3.25mm (No. 10) knitting
needles and a 3.25mm (No. 10) circular
needle (80cm or 100cm in length).
Yarn is available from
theknittingnetwork.co.uk.

Tension
28 stitches and 36 rows, to 10 x 10cm, over
stocking stitch, using 3.25mm needles.

Abbreviations
St(s), stitch(es); k, knit; p, purl; yf, yarn
forward (to make 1 st); tog, together
(decrease, by working as many sts
together as stated).

Note
To accommodate the large number of
stitches as the shawl becomes wider,
switch to a 3.25mm circular needle and
continue to work back and forth in rows.
Yarn amounts are based on average
requirements and are therefore
approximate. Instructions in square
brackets are worked as stated after 2nd
bracket.
* YARN SUBJECT TO AVAILABILITY
With 3.25mm needles, cast on 2 sts.
Work set-up rows as follows,
1st row: K1, yf, k1 – 3 sts.
2nd row: K to end.
3rd row: [K1, yf ] twice, k1 – 5 sts.
4th row: K to end.
5th row: K1, yf, k3, yf, k1 – 7 sts.
6th row: K to end.
7th row: K3, yf, k1, yf, k2, yf, k1 – 10 sts.
8th row: K4, p2tog, p1, k2, yf, k1.
9th row: K4, yf, k2, yf, k3, yf, k1 – 13 sts.
10th row: K5, p2tog, p2, k3, yf, k1.
11th row: K5, yf, k3, yf, k4, yf, k1 – 16 sts.
12th row: Cast off 3 sts (1 st remains on
right-hand needle), k2, p2tog, p3, k4, yf, k1
– 13 sts.
Continue in pattern as follows,
1st pattern row: Cast off 3 sts (1 st
remains on right-hand needle), k2, yf, k to
last 3 sts, yf, k2, yf, k1.
2nd pattern row: K4, k2tog, k to last st, yf,
k1.
3rd pattern row: K4, yf, k to last 4 sts, yf,
k3, yf, k1 – 3 sts increased.
4th pattern row: K5, k2tog, k to last st, yf,
k1.
5th pattern row: K5, yf, k to last 5 sts, yf,
k4, yf, k1 – 3 sts increased.
6th pattern row: Cast off 3 sts (1 st
remains on right-hand needle), k2, k2tog, k
to last st, yf, k1 – 3 sts decreased.
7th pattern row: As 1st pattern row.
8th pattern row: K4, p2tog, p to last 3 sts,
k2, yf, k1.
9th pattern row: As 3rd pattern row.
10th pattern row: K5, p2tog, [k1, p1] to
last 4 sts, k3, yf, k1.
11th pattern row: As 5th pattern row.
12th pattern row: Cast off 3 sts (1 st
remains on right-hand needle), k2, p2tog,
p to last 5 sts, k4, yf, k1 – 3 sts decreased.
Last 12 rows form pattern.
Continue in pattern until you have enough
yarn to cast off with, ending with a 6th or a
12th pattern row (you will need a length
of yarn that is at least 4 times the length of
the last row).
Cast off.

To make up
Pin out to measurements given and spray
with cold water. Leave to dry completely
before weaving in ends.
