Making HV plug connections 1

The following items have to be observed in order to

guarantee permanent faultless function:
• Observe the sequence of the work steps.
• Use only specified materials and undamaged parts.
• Make sure that the plugs, the receptacles and also the insulating materials,
auxiliary equipment and tools are clean.
• Do not touch the insulating pieces with your bare hands.
Sweat on the hands can cause spark-overs.
• For cleaning use only a clean and soft cloth free of fluff.
• Remove heavy dirt with undenatured ethyl alcohol and dry the plug connections.
• Check the HV plugs and receptacles for cracks and scorching.
Use intact insulating pieces only.
• Do not mix the silicone oil and the transformer oil.
• Use the "Corona disk" only if the margin of 3 mm on the bottom
of the socket (sealing surface) is not damaged.
A plug with a damaged sealing surface must only be used on the HV generator with
transformer oil.
• The silicone oil allows the corona disk and the sealing ring to swell up,
thus guaranteeing that the plug connection is protected against humidity.
If the plug connections are removed again after a longer period of operation
(after 8 days), the corona disk and the silicone sealing ring have to be renewed.
• In the case of high-voltage generators with receptacles in a vertical operating position,
use only transformer oil without corona disk and sealing ring.
• Do not use transformer oil for X-ray tube assemblies.
• When inserting the plugs, the slot and the nose have to be located opposite one another.

WARNING When using force, it is possible that, due to the tolerances, the
plug - turned by 120°- can be inserted into the receptacle despite
the slot and the nose.

When installing the high-voltage cables pay attention

to the minimal bending radius !

At a single permanent installation r ≥ 24 mm

At a fixed installation r ≥ 100 mm
At a free installation r ≥ 165 mm

Inserting the HV plug into the tub assembly 1

Fig. 4

Insertion with corona disks 1

• Push the union (Fig. 4/11) over the plug, the thread points to the plug.
• Attach the half-shells over the flange (Fig. 3/36)
with the slot close to the limit stop.
Observe the installation direction, no height adjustment possible!
• Fasten the screw on the half-shells even at both sides (max. 1Nm).
The shielding braid is connected to the ground via the tightened clamp,
important for functioning!
• Clean the insulating piece (Fig. 3/31) on the plug, do not touch with your bare hands.
• Pull the gasket (Fig. 4/13) over the plug up to the flange.
• Moisten the corona disk (Fig. 4/14) generously with silicone oil (Fig. 1/15)
on both sides and push it over the plug contacts.
• Insert the HV plug - pay attention to the nose (Fig. 3/32) and the slot -
into the receptacle until the contact pins are engaged.
• Tighten the union manually by holding the HV cable so that it does not get twisted.
• Tighten both setscrews with the allen key
until slight counter-pressure (max. 1Nm) occurs.
Locking element!

The upper edge of the setscrew may be turned only max. 2mm
from the surface of the union (Fig. 4/11).
If no counter-pressure occurs, turn back the setscrew
until the upper edge is flush with surface of the union.

Inserting the HV plug onto the HV generator 1

Insertion with transformer oil 1

In the case of HV generators with HV receptacles in vertical position,

the HV plugs are inserted with transformer oil without corona disk and sealing.
If the HV receptacles are not in a vertical or variable position,
the HV plugs are inserted the same way as into the tube assembly, see page 1-6.
• Check the oil level and, if necessary, fill it up.
Minimum oil level without inserted plug = 5 mm or 5 ml.
• Insert the HV plug - pay attention to the nose (Fig. 3/32) and the slot -
into the respectable until the contact pins are engaged.
• When the plug is inserted, the oil level must reach at least up to half the height
of the insulating piece and max. up to the upper edge of the plug flange.
