DR. ALVIN T. MORALES
FORM OF TOURISM MODULE SIX

Tourism, as defined by the UNWTO, is when

people travel and stay in places outside their usual
environment for less than a year. People travel for
different reasons, like having fun, doing business,
or learning something new. In class with Mr. Alvin
T. Morales, we discussed the different types of
tourism and the places that are great examples of
each kind.

Tourism has many purposes. Leisure tourism is for

people who want to relax and take a break from
their busy lives.

For example, Thailand is famous for family tourism because it has activities for all ages. On the other
hand, special interest tourism is for people with unique hobbies, like exploring different cultures or going
on adventures. Brazil is perfect for adventure tourism because of its exciting landscapes and outdoor
activities. Educational tourism is for people who want to learn something new, like history or languages,
while traveling. An example is Intramuros in the Philippines, which is popular for dark tourism, where
people visit places with a tragic past. Similarly, doom tourism is about visiting places that might disappear
soon, like the Malagonlong Bridge in Tayabas City.

Couples often choose honeymoon tourism, with the Maldives being a popular romantic destination. Older
travelers, or senior tourists, might prefer Istanbul, which has interesting activities for them. Solo female
travel is also becoming popular, with Spain being known as a safe and exciting destination for women
traveling alone.

Nature is a big part of tourism too. Ecotourism,

like visiting the Puerto Princesa Underground
River, focuses on protecting the environment while
exploring it. Cebu is great for wildlife tourism
because of its natural attractions and animals.
Rural tourism lets travelers experience countryside
life, like farming and enjoying the quiet of rural
areas.

There are also cultural and urban experiences.

Festival tourism, such as attending Cebu’s colorful
celebrations, helps travelers enjoy local traditions.
For a more modern experience, places like France
are great for urban tourism with their busy cities
and famous landmarks. Whether it’s visiting
gateway destinations like India or enjoying sports
tourism in Barcelona, tourism offers something for
everyone.

Learning about these forms of tourism helped me understand how travel can fit different interests
and bring people closer to the world. From relaxing to exploring nature or learning about cultures,
each form of tourism has something special to offer.
