-John is the only evangelist who does not mention the sharing of bread and wine
during the Last Supper. In fact, John sees this last night as a farewell. Jesus was
leaving… where?
-In the face of his disciples' confusion, Jesus clarified: “I am the way, and the
truth.”
-The way to where? And what does that have to do with truth? In a world where we
are taught that all truth is relative, can we be sure that Jesus is the absolute
truth?
-For three and a half years the disciples had been arguing about who would be the
greatest (Mark 9:34; Luke 9:46; 22:24.) Jesus had been trying to teach them true
leadership. On His last night with them, He did so by using an example they would
never forget.
-Taking on the role of a servant, the Lord washed the feet of His disciples (John
13:4-5.) Peter refused to be thus served, but soon gave in (John 13:6-9.)
-Now it was time to draw the lesson from this strange behavior of Jesus (John
13:12-16.)
-Since we are all equal before God, power and authority must be used to serve
others with true humility. Such humility should be a hallmark of followers of
Jesus.
--a great leader who teaches his students well is shown by his actions amongst
them. Jesus showed a good example of how a lovely God He is. That He serve His
children
-if we allow Jesus to work in our lives, we will have Jesus as our 100% ownership
and same as last week lesson, will give us power to do in His will
-The announcement of Jesus’ departure left the apostles troubled
(Jn. 13:33, 36.) Where was Jesus going? “To prepare a place for you” (Jn. 14:2.)
-He immediately assured them that it was not a definitive separation. HE WOULD
CERTAINLY return to take them to the place He was going to prepare (John 14:1-3.)
-The parting was going to be hard. Jesus was going to die. Once resurrected, He
would remain with them only a few days. Then… He would disappear. When that time
came, the apostles would know that the farewell was not final. Jesus had a job to
do, and then He would return (Acts 1:10-11.)
-Jesus never lies. He promised to return and he will do so. Soon we will be able to
join the apostles in welcoming Jesus and accompanying him to the rooms that will be
prepared for us in Heaven.
-When Jesus announced that He was leaving, Peter asked, “Where are You going?”
(Jn. 13:36.) Shortly afterward, Jesus said to them, “And you know where I am going,
and you know the way” (Jn. 14:4.) To this, Thomas replied that they did not yet
know where He was going, so they could not know the way to get there either (Jn .
14:5.)
-Where was Jesus going and what was the route to get there?
-Jesus was going to God, the Father (Jn. 13:3.) Jesus himself is the way for us to
reach the Father (Jn. 14:6-7.)
-Jesus is the most profound representation of God. The way Jesus acted, and the
love He showed in dying for us, are an exact reflection of the Father's character
and love.
-in the past 2 weeks of our lesson, the same point that Jesus is life, we can see
Jesus the truth and He is the way to the Father only. No shortcuts.
-when we are lost in a cave and need to find the way out, we need to track every
road we pass, put signs that these portion was already been on your track. We also
need to make noise so someone will caught attention where to look for you. In our
lives, when we need of the way to life, we should look for Jesus because He is the
way.
-how important Jesus(the son) in our lives in terms of understanding. Ex: a normal
people attends a court hearing and the terms and words express is to deep. Your
lawyer then explains to you what was conversed about a matter. Jesus is the lawyer
and He is the only who can explain to us what the Father said.
-the presence and glory of the Father will put us to death because we cannot see it
directly. Jesus is the filter of it and makes us connect to the Father. (Shades)
LESSON
-Truth is not something that has to do with human beings, it is a concept that
emanates from God.
-Believing “my truth” will not change me. Believing “the Truth” will renew my soul
for eternal life. Because absolute truth is not a concept or a theory, it is a
Person: Jesus Christ.
-Everything that exists was created and depends on Jesus, the Truth (Col. 1:16-17.)
-Jesus dispels the darkness of falsehood and confusion and makes it possible for us
to see everything from the right perspective. Through Jesus we are able to
correctly interpret the world around us.
-contrast: Jesus(way, truth and life), falsehood( devil and sin)
-faithfulness to God and to His will is needed by the truths Jesus has shown to us.
-these truths coming from Jesus has nothing compared to the knowledge of this
world. It is life changing.
-these proofs 100% declared the Jesus is connected to the Father and the
characteristics is the same.
-Jesus is the truth. When we see Jesus, we see the truth. We see explanations, and
we will understand it.
