B. Procedure
NOTE: Comparing the low relative cost of the filter with the cost of man hours involved in cleaning
and testing a filter, it is suggested that the filter be replaced at each inspection interval.
(1) Inspect retainer, washers and spring removed from valve in Step 1.A.(2)(b). Replace parts as
required.
(2) Inspect plug removed from valve in Step 1.A.(2)(b) for galling or cross threading. Replace plug

(b) Rinse filter in cold water then air dry filter thoroughly.
(c) Fully immerse filter in solvent and agitate filter in solvent.
(d) Remove filter from solvent and allow filter to air dry.
(5) Install filter in filter test setup similar to that shown in Figure 601 and constructed as follows:
(a) Using 1/4 inch metal tubing, install regulator in line with two AN815-4 nipples.
(b) Install two gages with AN824-4 tees.
(c) Make orifice from AN815-4 union plugged to a depth of 1/8 inch and drilled 0.042 inch
through.
(d) Connect filter to line with quick-coupler (Type 637, Superior Valve and Fitting Co.,
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania).
(e) Use filtered compressed air at 80°F ±40°F.
(6) Test filter as follows:
(a) With filter installed in filter tester, adjust regulator to apply inlet air pressure of 20 psig at
inlet air pressure gage.
(b) Discard filter if pressure indicated on downstream air pressure gage exceeds 3.5 psig.
(7) Remove filter from filter tester.
C. Follow On
(1) Inspect for presence of foreign objects.
(2) Install cleaned filter or new filter in air conditioning shut-off valve. See Air Conditioning Shut-off
