Sisig Review
Sisig Sensation: Unearthing the Sizzling Treasures of Laiya's Dining Scene
Every time I visit different restaurants, my eyes are immediately drawn to one item on the menu - sisig!
It's quite a challenge to put into words the distinct feeling sisig bring in me. In fact, my friends often jestingly ask,
"Hindi ka ba nagsasawa sa sisig?" My response is always a resounding no! One thing I'm sure of is that the
combination of spiciness, sweetness, and saltiness in sisig is what my cravings always seek.
As a self-proclaimed sisig enthusiast, let me take you on a flavorful adventure in Laiya’s finest local sisigan,
as we explore the vibrant culinary landscape of sisig, a traditional Filipino delicacy that has captured my heart, and
of course, my taste buds.
Sinsay Shalom’s: easily comforting range of offerings
First on the list is Sinsay Shalom Food House. Located in Barangay Laiya Aplaya right beside Andok’s, this
is where I eat sisig every Sunday after Chuch with friends from the choir of the St. Joseph Marello Chapel. What I
love about Sinsay is its diverse range of sisig offerings, from classic pork sisig to alternative versions like bangus
(milkfish) and chicken sisig. The menu caters to every palate. This is also what sets them apart from other sisig
store in this review, it’s an automatic plus point for me.
The classic pork sisig at Sinsay Shalom Food House, though unique in texture and is quite dry, boasts
flavors that don't disappoint. While I missed the satisfying chunks of chewy pork that I typically savor in a sisig, the
tangy and not-so-spicy pork more than makes up for it.
Additionally, their bangus sisig is a delightful twist on the traditional pork or chicken sisig. Using milkfish
instead of pork is a brilliant take for those who don’t eat pork. The mild, flaky texture of the milkfish that sizzles on
the plate is a refreshing take on a beloved classic.
Danaya’s: always a notch higher than most
Our next stop is Danaya Bar & Restaurant, where sisig is elevated to new heights. Unlike others, I don't
frequently dine on sisig at this restaurant due to the slight difference in its price compared to other student-friendly
sisig options in different places. However, once you taste their sisig, there's no denying that it's delicious and worth
every penny you'll spend.
Danaya's sisig isn't your run-of-the-mill variety. It’s a mouthwatering combination of pork and chicken
liver, served alongside turmeric rice and mixed vegetables that add an extra layer of flavor. The slightly higher price
is undoubtedly worth the experience it delivers.
In addition, the portion size is generous, perfectly complementing the accompanying rice. It's a flavorful
and satisfying meal that satisfies my craving perfectly well.
EsDee/SD’s: all here, so near sabi ni Ate Vi
Up next is SD Food & Drink's sisig. While their pork sisig might not feature the same degree of innovation
as our previous stops, it remains a delightful homage to the timeless charms of this classic dish. With an affordable
price point, it's an inviting option for those in search of an authentic sisig experience, especially for students. It’s
nearness to the school is also a plus if you need a quick fix of sisig.
Served on a sizzling plate with a generous portion of rice, their sisig packs a spicy kick. I didn't have high
expectations for SD's sisig since their primary reputation was for their refreshing beverages, but their sisig is
noteworthy, nonetheless.
Sugarly yours: oh that heavenly explosion of flavors!
Another sisigan located near the school, we come to Sugarly Yours Laiya Food Corner, their sisig stands out
for its distinct and captivating flavor. What sets their sisig apart is its excellent combination of flavors – a sweet
undertone resulting from the inclusion of mayonnaise, a spicy kick, and a well-balanced saltiness. When this
delectable dish arrives, the enticing scent of onions wafts through the air, creating an almost heavenly experience.
This sisig is thoughtfully served with a fried egg and a generous portion of rice, making it an ideal choice,
especially for students looking for a satisfying and filling meal. The enticing blend of flavors and the affordability of
this dish have earned it a special place in my heart, firmly establishing it as one of my all-time favorite sisig
offerings.
Café Laiya: hearty servings, student-friendly pricing
Last on the list is none other than Cafe Laiya's sisig. It's another personal favorite, and it certainly lives up
to its reputation, especially when considering the student-friendly price range it falls within. This sisig is not just
appetizing; it's exceptionally filling, making it an excellent choice for those who want a hearty meal without
breaking the bank. For those with a hearty appetite, I recommend opting for the unlimited rice option from their
sizzling menu, which includes not only bottomless rice but also hot soup and a serving of gravy.
Admittedly, I was initially skeptical about the idea of pairing gravy with sisig. However, upon trying it, I
discovered it to be one of the most delightful combinations. The gravy they serve is a testament to creaminess that
enhances the overall experience. One minor drawback I must mention is that some of the pork chunks still have
visible hairs, which can be slightly off-putting. Nevertheless, the taste more than makes up for this slight issue.
Rest assured, when you dine here, you're likely to find yourself reaching for that unlimited rice more than
once, because that’s basically what always happen to me.
All incredibly delish
Each of these restaurants' sisig offerings boasts its unique and distinct qualities, making them stand out in
their own way. And while they may differ in numerous ways, there's one thing I can guarantee: they're all incredibly
delicious in their own right.
Well, thanks for reading this far! Should you find yourselves trying them out, do reach out and tell us what
you think! Sisig on!
