Snake ( a wire skeleton inside) - knitting pattern

(knitted round)
Designed by Tetyana Korobkova

The toy is knitted round and that is why the pattern is recommended for Advanced
Beginner Knitters.

Toy related knit stitch


The finished elephant size is approximately 5,5 inches (14cm) tall. Lenght - 21.7 "
(55 cm)

Abbreviations

K = knit
P = purl
Sts = stitches
Kfb = knit into front and back of stitch
K2tog = knit 2 together
CO = cast on
RND = round

Materials needed

 4 double-pointed needles in a size suitable for the yarn weight you are using. I
recommend using needles a size or two smaller than the yarn calls for, to
produce a firm fabric. İ used Needles size 2 (3mm)
 Light green yarn
 Red ribbon
 Toy stuffing
 Yarn needle
 Stitch holder
 Piece of the White thin felt for eyes
 2 beads for eyes

All time İ am working in the round. This help avoids the ugly seams .

Body

Body and head are one piece . Cast on 6 stitches. Distribute among 3 needles and join
to work in the round, being careful not to twist sts. Place marker.

RND1: Kfb ( 6times) ( 12 sts )

RND2: Kfb, K1 (6times) (18 sts )

RND3: Kfb, K2 (6times) ( 24 sts )

RND4-16: 13Rnds K all ( 24 sts )

RND17: K2tog, K6 (3times ) ( 21 sts )

RND18: K all ( 21 sts)

RND19: K2tog, K5 (3times ) ( 18 sts )

RND20-22: 3Rnds K all ( 18 sts )

RND23: K2tog, K1 (6times ) ( 12 sts )

RND24: K2tog, K2 (3times ) ( 9 sts )

Stuff the head of the snake.

RND25-164: 140Rnds K all ( 9 sts )

RND165: K2tog, K1 (3times ) ( 6 sts )

RND166-195: 30Rnds K all ( 6 sts )

Now we need to do a wire skeleton.
Take 1 piece of thick wire (120 cm).

Bend it in the middle.

Put this wire inside the body.

Stuff the body with toy stuffing

İf you have more wire than the body of the snake – cut it.

Cut yarn and thread through six remaining sts (add more stuffing if required).
Weave in ends.

Eyes.

Cast on 6 stitches. Distribute among 3 needles and join to work in the round, being
careful not to twist sts. Place marker.

RND1: Kfb ( 6times) ( 12 sts )

RND2: Kfb, K3 (3times) ( 15 sts )

RND3-11: 9 Rnds K all ( 15 sts )

Bind off.

Stuff it.

Lower jaw

Knitted flat.

Cast on 3 stitches.

Row1: Kfb, K1, Kfb (5 sts)

R0w2: K all ( 5 sts)

Row3: K1, Kfb, K1, Kfb, K1 (7 sts)

R0w4: K all ( 7 sts)

Row5: K1, Kfb, K3, Kfb, K1 (9 sts)

R0w6: K all ( 9 sts)

Bind off.

FİNİSHİNG SNAKE.

Cut the piece of the white thin felt for eyes

Choose the right place for it

And stitch it accurate to the head with white or green thread.

Embroider a black strip between two eyes.

Sew on 2 beads for eyes

Choose the right place for the Lower jaw

And sew on it to the head

Cut the piece of red ribbon

And sew on it inside of the mouth

You can also glue the eyelashes.
