ULTRASONIC SCIENCES LTD

ULTRASONIC SQUIRTER C SCANNING SYSTEM FOR

SANAT HOUSHMAND JIK

1. Basis of Quotation

A C scan “flat bed” squirter system for inspection of composite tubes using the through
transmission technique and Pulse-Echo. The system is designed for scanning up to 15
panels approximately 1000 mms long x 250 to 500mms Diameter. This system is
dedicated to the scanning of these parts, although it can also be used for any other
products which will fit within the scan area.

The ultrasonic system proposed is based on the latest technology Pulser Receiver, which
has both logarithmic and linear receivers. This system is used for composite inspection by
many companies in UK and elsewhere, including BAE SYSTEMS, Stork Fokker, Airbus
and suppliers to these companies. With this system it is possible to inspect panels in a
single pass using two channels for displaying the data.

2. Mechanical scanning system

Support framework fabricated from square section steel tube.

Stainless tank in base of system with water circulation pump and drain.
X-Y scanning system using precision linear bearings with recirculating ball slides.
Stepper motor driven via precision belt drive – the long axis has belts on both sides
driven by a single motor.
Manually adjusted squirter manipulators for initial aligment of squirters.

Z axis adjustment 200mm manual

Axis resolution 0.1mm or better
Axis repeatability 0.2mm or better
Scanning speed Approx 750mm/second maximum

Two squirter nozzles are included with 6mm diameter orifice. Other orifice diameters are
available and can be changed easily. The nozzles are designed for standard 1” diameter
probes.
