Darling Baby Dragon Pattern
By Red Mill’s Crochet
Many people have asked for a smaller version of the sleeping baby dragon
pattern I released, this darling lil’ dragon is definitely a shrunken down
version with some updates and changes to make the body look smoother!
Please feel free to add or subtract any details as far as finishing touches
go to make your dragon feel unique!
I hope you enjoy this pattern and what you create with it as much as I
did! Don't forget to take pictures and tag me (@redmills_crochet) so I can
see your beautiful creations!
Happy hooking <3 -Millie

Supplies
for this you'll need:
a 5.0mm, 5.5mm, or 6mm hook (your preference)
Chenille or blanket yarn, need at least 3 colors
Fiber Fill Stuffing
Black yarn (for embroidery)
Optional fur yarn
A yarn needle
Scissors
Stitch marker (optional, I don’t use one)
For this project, I tested it out myself with two different yarns.
I used less than a full skein of Bernat blanket yarn and less than
two skeins of Parfait chunky yarn. I used a 5.0 clover hook for
both dragons.
Other yarns such as Chenille home, Premier chunky Parfait or XL
parfait, and sweet snuggles lite would all be decent yarns to use for
this project if you're able to find the color you want to use :)
Just expect your dragon to turn out bigger if you're using a thicker
yarn or smaller if you’re using thinner yarn.
Also, I used fur the love from hobby lobby for some optional feathery
details at the end.

p.s. this pattern took approximately just under 4 hours for the first
one I made ( lots of trial and error) and then just under 3 hours for
the second run through with the official pattern as it’s written here.

Suggested Assembly order:
1. Head + Body
2. Arms Kind of looks like a star
3. Thighs when both pieces are sewn
in place
4. Legs
5. Ears
6. Horns
7. Spikes
8. Wings
9. Tail Accessory / any additional accessories + accents 11/21
Assembly
Sew the head
on to the body
Make sure the flat side of
the belly is facing down and
that the increases of the
back are lined up with the
top of the head.
You should wind up with
something a little like
this...kinda looks like a
slithery little snaaaake ... I
hope I`m not the only one
that laughs at my jokes ...
Sew the arms
on to the body
I don’t have an exact row for
these, place them just below
the neck and facing out as if
the dragon is sprawled out
with their arms over their
head.
Basically just make sure they
don’t make the body look like
its lopsided when looking at it
from the front
12/21
Sew the thighs
on to the body Back of the thigh
The back of the thigh is
where all of your decreases
are, as shown in the picture
to the right.
The back of the thigh should
start somewhere around
rnd 22 and the front should
be around rnd 29/30
Make sure your thighs are
placed evenly on both sides
so that your feet will be able
to lay flat on the ground
once they are attached.
Stuff them more as needed
while sewing. Back of the thigh
Sew the feet
on to the
thighs/body
The feet will be the same
deal as the arms, no exact
spot but placed so they lay
flat and so that the body
doesn’t look like its lopsided
when they are placed.
13/21
Sew the ears
on to the head
Fold the ears so that there Front/top
is an indent in the center of
them.
The front/top part of the
ear should land at about Bottom/front
round 12 towards the top of
the head.
The bottom/front of the
ear should be at about
round 13/14 for a slanted
look.
You might want to use
safety pins to hold the
shape of the ear in place
while you sew.
Mine are about 12-13 stitches apart for a sleepier look or
8-9 stitches apart for a spritelier look when you are
looking from the top of the head down.
Sew the horns
on to the head
Sew the horns on just at the
top of and just behind the
ears, I don’t have an exact
placement, I just try my best
to make them look as even
as possible from the center.
14/21
Sew the spikes
on to the back
I start sewing my spikes on
by placing the middle one
first, that way I can find the
spacing I prefer a little
easier.
No exact placement on the
center spike other than
completely in the center of
the back and the place the
front and back ones both 2-
3 rnds away from it.
Sew the wings
on to the back
Start by lining up the very
top inner corner of the wing
(where the sewing tail is)
with the very front of the
first horn and place it about
a stitch away.
I like my wings to have a
slanted look so I sew them
another stitch further away
every other rnd.
15/21
Sew on the tail
accessories
(if you made one)
For the first option that
looks like leaves, just sew on
that center area to the very
end of the tail, and make
sure it’s secure before
weaving in your loose ends.
For the second option with
two pieces, I wove the
sewing tail back through the
base row and pulled it a little
tight so that it creates a
more “v” shape look.
Sew the base rows on to
each side of the tail so that
when you look from the top
down, they look like they
start forming a star around
the end of the tail.
16/21
Finishing Touches
Sew in the eyes, I`ll link a video
below that helped me figure
out the shape I liked, the
creator is Tranglupattern and I
added on little eyelashes to my
eye slits afterwards.
This might take a few trial and
errors moments for you, don't
get frustrated, you're literally
almost done :)
She starts the eyes at about
the 2 minute mark, mine are
placed at about rounds 7 -10
(which you can see better on
the blue dragon) with a slight
slant down and the eyelashes
are each about 1 stitch long.
eye embroidery tutorial
I honestly think I now prefer the eye with no curve in it now that
I`ve done it but, please add your own flare or make them look
however you prefer!
Sew on the nose slits,
placement is preference but, I
have mine placed from about
the top of rnd 1 to rnd 2, approx.
2-3 stitches apart and they are
slanted upwards. I quite literally
have yet to make mine look
even...
17/21
Optional Finishing Touches
Add a little fluffy yarn around
the horns for a feathery look,
use any fur yarn you prefer,
this one is "fur the love" from
hobby lobby. This is what I
did with my “OG” baby
dragon
Add Feathery yarn onto your
wings, I sewed mine along
the top of the wings and
weaved in the loose ends
Sew on some blush to your
baby dragon if you’d like as
well! I opted out on it this
time but the “OG” baby
dragon does have some!!
18/21
Final Look
(holy smokes! We finally made it!!!)
Would ya just look at these darling little babies!!!!!
Such little cuties, I can’t stand it!
19/21
Hang on, let’s bring back the OG
Y’all.... I can’t!
Such sleepy
little babies!!!
20/21
And there you have it!
Another cute and equally as snuggly baby dragon!!
This darling lil’ baby came in about a head shorter than the
OG sleepy baby dragon!
