Before Tết, people clean and decorate their homes, buy new clothes, and prepare
food like BANH CHUNG or BANH TET

families prepare an offering for their ancestors. The offering includes various
foods like chicken, bánh chưng, fruits,... This is a way to show respect and
gratitude to their ancestors.
The first person to enter a house after midnight on New Year's Eve is believed
to bring luck to the family for the entire year. It’s usually called as “xông đất”.
People often wear new clothes during Tết, particularly the áo dài (traditional
dress) in the South
One of the most popular activity of Tết is giving lì xì, or lucky money. People
usually put money in red envelopes and give it to children as a symbol of luck
and happiness.
Tết is a time to visit relatives, friends, and neighbors, often bringing gifts and
well-wishes. Many people also go on du xuân, or New Year trips, to visit
temples, pagodas,…. to pray for good health, peace.
