Time and Meaning:


+Time: late January and early February of the Gregorian calendar
+Meaning: This is an opportunity to remove the gap between family members,
remember ancestors and pray for a peaceful new year.
2.Tết Preparations:
Before Tết, people clean and decorate their homes, buy new clothes, and prepare
food like BANH CHUNG or BANH TET
3.Activities during TET:
 families prepare an offering for their ancestors. The offering includes various
foods like chicken, bánh chưng, fruits,... This is a way to show respect and
gratitude to their ancestors.
 The first person to enter a house after midnight on New Year's Eve is believed
to bring luck to the family for the entire year. It’s usually called as “xông đất”.
 People often wear new clothes during Tết, particularly the áo dài (traditional
dress) in the South
 One of the most popular activity of Tết is giving lì xì, or lucky money. People
usually put money in red envelopes and give it to children as a symbol of luck
and happiness.
 Tết is a time to visit relatives, friends, and neighbors, often bringing gifts and
well-wishes. Many people also go on du xuân, or New Year trips, to visit
temples, pagodas,…. to pray for good health, peace.
