Hi everyone, my name is Thuy Dung from Kien Giang secodary school.

Since Tet coming

very soon, I’ll tell you about Lunar New Year festival.
Lunar New Year is the biggest Tet holiday in Vietnam. It is celebrated throughout
Vietnam. Tet is organized to celebrate the new year and to dispel bad stories from the past.
Especially, we could give to each other the best wishes for the new year. Tet holiday takes
place from the first day in the lunar calendar until the third day. Though occurring in a
short period of time, Tet is believed to be the most significant and popular holiday in
Vietnam.
Vietnamese people often say "Buy salt at the beginning of the year, buy lime at the end of
the year". "Buy salt at the beginning of the year" to hope for a full and prosperous year,
"buy lime at the end of the year" to repair the house, chase away the bad things in the old
year and welcome good things in the new year.
Before Tet, everyone clean their house and decorate it with flowers and trees such as a
kumquat tree or peach blossom. Besides, children can buy new clothes and candy for Tet.
A huge amount of food ingredients will be bought before Tet to make traditional dishes
like Banh Chung, Gio cha, Banh Tet, Xoi, Mut. .. .
Tet have provides an opportunity for everyone to return home and reunite in a warm
atmosphere. During the three main days of Tet, people visit relatives' houses and wish
each other blessings. Children will wear new clothes and receive lucky money envelopes.
Adults will not have to be busy with many daily tasks but will give lucky money to
children and the elderly with wishes for a peaceful, prosperous and happy new year.
During the Tet holiday, people can go to pagodas to pray for good things, peace, and
health.
A year starts from spring. Tet comes, spring comes, hundreds of flowers bloom, everyone
gathers together, ignores the stories of the old year, welcomes the new year and wishes
each other luck and happiness.
Tet is not only an ordinary festival, it is also a cultural beauty of Vietnam. Tet is a
meaningful and important festival which is always expected by every Vietnamese. It is
time for us to have some days of relaxation with our loved family. Tet is really fun
I love Tet holiday!
